: Need Advice about Edge Module... How do I know it's working?
sjl_dmax 10-20-2006, 04:17 PM OK. As the title says, I need your advice.
Here it goes... I picked up a used Edge module from a forum member. Just today, got to installing it. Installation was a piece of cake. Read the instructions, set it to level 1 and went for a test drive. It felt more responsive but I wasn't sure whether I was pushing it harder than normal or the module was doing its thing. So, I pulled over and set it to level 2. Once again, butt dyno says it seems faster but it wasn't a "WOW". Didn't want to push it to higher settings since my tranny is stock. :o: Now, after each power setting adjustment, I tried to get the power confirmation from the module, but I am not getting any feedback of from the truck. Supposedly, the engine is supposed to give short revs matching the power level settings to confirm but nothing.
So, I boldly called Edge Products' product support # and spoke with Aaron and explained to him that I am not getting the power setting confirmation. I also explained that I was not the original owner, that I have purchased it used. Gave him the build date and version on the module. He stepped me thru the power setting procedure and it repeated the same non-confirmation condition, twice.
So, he gave me an RMA# to ship it to them so that they can test it because he was suspecting that something was wrong with the harness. If the module was faulty, he told me that he would send me a new replacement. (which I was pleasantly surprised to hear)
What do you guys think? Should I send it back? Is it possible that the module can work without the confirmation feature working? If so, how can I verify that it is working. The only hesitation I have about sending it back is if this module works, I'd rather keep it. I don't want it replaced by a module that may give shutdown conditions, when the one I have has never shown that symptom according to the previous owner...
I'm not sure what to do...:help:
I apologize for getting wordy. Thanks in advance for your input...
Jim
Hard to find fault with Edge's customer service. If it were me, I would send it back to them for repair or replacement since its not giving the power level confirmation with the engine revs.
Ever since they started beta testing the new box, the amount of complaints has decreased dramatically here on the 'Place. Coincidence, or proof that the new boxes are better? Hard to say, but I'd give it a shot. Your current box doesn't sound like its working right.
sjl_dmax 10-20-2006, 05:18 PM Thanks for your feedback Lock. I'm going to be out of town next week so it would be good timing for shipping it over to Ogden, UT to have them fix it or replace it. You're right their customer service is definitely above standard.
I have to run into town so, I'm going to leave it on today to see if I can notice any difference, I have it set at level 3 right now. Most likely, I won't see anything. I'll take it out tonight and send it to Ogden tomorrow.
SteveFord 10-20-2006, 09:29 PM Remeber without the monitor if you set the tune with tow haul off then go romp on it with tow haul on it will be stock. I did this when racing a buddy in his dodge and couldn't figure out why it wasn't pulling any harder than just my pred alone on 65 when it was stacked on 65 pred and level 2 edge. Turned off tow haul and totaly different truck. Just something to remeber if you haven't tried that already. Nice thing being able to put two different tunes with tow haul off and tow haul on.

Yes, I did get that from the instructions and made sure that I was on the right transmission setting (Normal/Tow Haul mode).
Thank you for your input...

Yeah, same thing here when I got a used unit. Called Edge and the fella on the line explained it is not much of a rpm bump. Just a quick blip. You have to listen real close with the window open and the hood up. It does it right after you go back into park and it is quick. It is not a 100 rpm rev or anything like that. If your not listening real close you can miss it.

sjl_dmax 10-21-2006, 11:03 AM Well, I'm shipping it to Edge this morning. I drove around last night set at level 3 and could not see any difference in the truck. Wife told me the same thing... In her words, it was... "Doesn't feel and faster to me..."

Thanks for not blaming me for it not working. as i said i used it to stack so when it was installed i couldnt really tell anything by sotp but when i took it to the track and put it on level 3 it slowed me down. the confirmation worked when i had it on (beleive it or not since its not for you). the confirmation is quick, almost as soon as it hits park it blips the throttle very quickly. as far as your wife's comment if shes not driving you cant tell a difference because youre not the one pushing the go pedal:) let me know what edge finds out, maybe it wasnt really working for me either when i bought it from a member on here.
Black sleeper 10-22-2006, 11:32 AM you have to set it with the manual and and I think it is key on and engine off put it in D=level 4, 3=level 3, 2= level 2, 1=level 1 and than press pedal 2 times start truck and go from park, reverse, neutral, reverse, park and then the truck will hunt the amount of times it is set for.
BullydogPowered 10-22-2006, 04:24 PM sjl - i had it in level 3 when i took it off. just so you know in case it matters
SteveFord 10-22-2006, 10:08 PM It is a real quick blip of the throttle but if your in level 3 the three blips are noticable enough. When I first bought mine used I called edge since there was no instructions and they walked me through it. It took me about ten times to finally get it down since I was going to slow through the setup. If you go to slow it wouldn't work, atleast mine wouldn't.
AZHUNTER 10-22-2006, 10:54 PM Send it in!! You will definetly feel!! the difference on level three.
sjl_dmax 10-22-2006, 11:58 PM Thanks for all the replies. I sent it in to Edge so we'll see what they say.
BullyDogPowered - don't worry about it. It seems like Edge is going to take a look at it. It's always a risk when you buy something used... For now, I'm still not sure whether I couldn't hear the confirmation blip as SteveFord mention, b/c I didn't do it fast enough. But yet, I should be able to feel a major difference when I was set to level 3. For now, I'm just going to wait and see what Edge says...
I'll keep you posted.

just let me know, as you know i bought it used right before you did:lol:
Mackin 10-23-2006, 01:27 PM When setting the Edge (old) you have to make sure your getting 100% APP travel. Make sure floor matts and such aren't hindering the travel. It's also not a race when selecting level.
We've seen this problem and simply put it in another truck to set to confirm.
you have to set it with the manual and and I think it is key on and engine off put it in D=level 4, 3=level 3, 2= level 2, 1=level 1 and than press pedal 2 times start truck and go from park, reverse, neutral, reverse, park and then the truck will hunt the amount of times it is set for.
Some of the newer versions you have to tap the tow/haul button on and then off for it to set the levels. You may want to confirm with edge on which versions this is for..Jim
sjl_dmax 10-24-2006, 04:50 AM had tried all those combinations over and over. Fast shift lever selections to s l o w lever selection. The one thing I did not think about was to see if the carpet was blocking the gas pedal from doing 100% travel...
Anyhow, Edge should get the module on 25th. We'll see what they say....
Doo800XP 10-24-2006, 02:50 PM Also make sure the engine is hot. The Edge doesn't fuel until you're warm, it gives 50% at 160deg. and 100% at 175deg. It should feel like a different truck on level 3.

I did not know that...
redfish 10-25-2006, 09:58 AM Ready the levels increase, 1st bump is only what 20hp? 2nd bump is another 25hp? you really dont notice that.
The Diff. you feel will be between 1 & 4or 5 that's when you'll feel the HP kick it.
BullydogPowered 10-26-2006, 09:50 AM any word yet SJL?

Hi Bullydog, nothing yet. I'm actually in Germany in business at the moment. Coming in tomorrow. I give them a call tomorrow if I think of it in time. But, definitely on Monday... Hopefully, they have good news...

sounds good, im as interested as you are. if it comes back saying it didnt work right that would explain why i slowed down:lol:
sjl_dmax 10-30-2006, 11:15 AM Well, just got off the phone w/ Edge tech support. I'm not sure whether Edge tested the module I sent back or whether they are systematically replacing the existing modules with the new ones. The tech support I spoke with was not able to tell me if my module was faulty or not. Regardless, they are sending me a new module today or tomorrow. I guess, I'll find out when I get the new module whether the old module was faulty or not...
Will keep you up to date.

cant beat that customer service, but i would like to know if it wasnt working
sjl_dmax 11-03-2006, 04:28 PM Update. The new unit will be shipped mid December. Probably will never find out whether the unit was good or bad...
Either way, as far as I am concerned, Edge is standing by their product and making sure that they are sending me a good product.

they just decided to hold off sending you one until the newest ones come out?
WYOMAX 11-08-2006, 09:40 PM They will not ship any till the new version is released. Which they were hoping will be dec 15th. If not they are going to contact us or that is what I was told yesterday. I had sent mine in a couple weeks a go After they recieved it they told me they had a hold on all new ones going out because of saftey issues.

makes sense it definately could be dangerous but im sure its hard to figure out what is really happening since all trucks dont do it
WYOMAX 11-08-2006, 10:00 PM I just hope They get it worked out. The last time it was like 4 or 5 months but at least they let me keep my old one till the new one was ready. This has bin going on now for well over a year now. I wounder how long I will have to go with out having the juice. Kinda suxs paying for something you cant use!!!
sjl_dmax 11-08-2006, 10:07 PM yep. like wyomax said, I was told the same, that the current version has issues and they are waiting for the latest revision, which is due on Dec 15th. They even gave me a sales order # to look up on their website after that date. Hopefully, they got it right this time. They've got to be getting close... On a side note, I heard from a friend who knows of a co-worker with a late model Dodge Cummins' Edge Attitude with same shutdown issues. He had to send a second box back. So, it's seems that not just the Dmax having shutdown issues.
