Hi Just got my edge w attitude and it says to drill a 5/16 th hole in the rt side exhaust manifold and tap it no problem but i wonder if i need to worry about metal filings getting up into the turbo? Any thoughts on that. I will use my shop vac.

Check Hoots procedure (on this web site) of drilling and taping with the engine running to blow out trash I did it and if a dummy can do it you know that you can. just take your time.I did use the next larger bit as the 5/16th recommended is awful tight on the tap normally a Q bit is used with the 3/8 NPT tap.
I agree that Hoot's article is the way to do it and it worked well for me:

However I too found that the 5/16 drill bit supplied with the Edge for the drilling of the 1/8 NPT fitting of the probe was a bit too tight. My reference says an "R" size is the right one and it worked better being a little larger hole. I believe Hoot's article says an "R" should be used for 1/8 NPT as well.
I talked to Edge about it and they maintain the 5/16 is okay, but I think that's because an "R" can be hard to find.

Thanks guys. I haven't done it yet maybe today. To leave it running during drilling and taping makes sense. I just hope it's not too hot. Maybe I will wear welding gloves.
I did it in the morning while the truck was cold. Then started the pilot hole, I did it in two steps, and started the truck when it got close to being through. Shut it off, change the drill bit, start it, enlarge the hole and shut if off while you get the tap started. Make sure what ever you are using to turn the tap will clear the firewall. I used a ratchet with a square socket on it. Start it up and tap it normally, make sure you've got the goggles because you'll feel the chips hitting your face.
By the time you are done, the manifold will be a touch on the warm side but not hot and the exhaust gases coming out while working on it are not hot either, just warm.
The worst part of the whole process is getting started drilling holes on your new truck...http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Confused.gif
If I were you, I'd get some extra plastic rivets for the fender well liners since some will no doubt be a little rough after you get them out. They come in packs of ten for about $7.00 or so from the stealer.

Hi Guy's. Thanks for all the help. I did it today and it went well. I was surprised how thin the exhaust manifold was. I let the engine run until i was done drilling then shut it down. On the 1/8 npt tap i used grease on the threads to trap metal filings and it also worked well. I will tow my 5th wheel trailer tomorrow to Cape Cod only about 30 miles away and watch the attitude show...Later Murph
