no idea...trans just started doing it for no reason. When im in tow/haul on the highway using varied throttle positions slowing down/speeding up, the TC will unlock for no reason and I really have to "play" with the throttle a lot to get it to re-lockup. If it unlocks and I hold the throttle steady, it will stay unlocked until I mess around with it a bit.
Also does it around town if Im in tow haul (I know it unlocks below ~25mph) around 45-50mph. Its kind of annoying on the highway, I was pulling up a hill with a trailer really hard (ok I just wanted to feel the power, you guys know you're guilty of it too) and I was into the pedal pretty hard, let off a bit and the engine RPM falls to idle. :wtf: I accellerate and RPM goes up again and truck accellerates, but I could tell right away by feel that the converter wasnt locked uo. I slowed down to ~55mph or so, braked, stood on my head, turned the radio to 99.1, jabbed the pedal twice, changed lanes, and it locked up again. Its done this quite a few times. IIRC its never done it in normal mode, only tow/haul. Its really annoying....trans is slightly low on fluid cause im missing my dipstick boot/seal, when hot the fluid level is a bit above the "MAX COLD" mark. Would low fluid level cause it? No MIL, no limping, I have not checked with the Tech 2 for 'soft codes' in the TCM tho.
Im back to stock tires now, could the TCM have learned soemthing with TC lockup and the 33" tires? I doubt it but you never know with that wierd confusing little box.
oh yeah, and even now with stock tires, grade braking still sucks. On my truck its totally hit or miss... maybe 4 out of 10 times it works like it should and winds the engine up to ~3600rpm or so. All the other times Im stuck coming down long hills with the trailer riding my brakes while the TCM sits there being useless. :confuzeld:
I even found a technique that makes grade braking more effective...what I do is if im at the top of a long descending hill, I slow down until I reach the "preset 5-4 downshift tow/haul" point, like 60mph or so, then I accellerate hard until it shifts back into 5th gear, then at ~80mph, I quickly let off the gas and "dip" quickly and firmly into the brake pedal ONCE and then let off the brake. Bingo. 8 out of 10 times the trans will downshift on command when I use that crazy technique.
Still waiting for EFILive to crack that goofy Allison dynamic grade braking algorithm:D
