: ford 6.0l diesel mpg
Tom Cooke 06-30-2004, 02:00 PM i have a new 2003 f350 4x4 dually. my hwy mileage was about 14mpg when purchased. i now have about 4000 miles on it and have changed the intake and exhuast to PDQ/AFE equipment. my performance increased dramatically but the mileage is only about 16mpg hwy. is this about what i should expect. my hwy speed is about 75mph.
i am thinking about buying the Diablo Sport (Predator). it will buy me great performance but if i am conservative will it increase my mileage. are there other things or other products that will help me increase my mileage.
thanks tom
Max Power 06-30-2004, 02:03 PM My dad has a 2003 Ferd 6.0 And he only gets about 15mpg. My uncle has one, same year and it gets 20+ all the time easily. The flashes on the ferds make a huge difference. Good luck getting a good one though because you can not go back so you have to get the newest one. You will also loose your pilot injection of you get it flashed so it will be quite a bit louder.
coolbeans 07-02-2004, 03:24 PM I had an early build '03 6.0, and man was that sucker fast! Then, when I took it in to a different dealer for an oil change, I told them not to flash it but they did anyway!!http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Angry.gif Without going into detail, it took away things I paid for, and gave me a troublesome POS!
Be happy with your truck! If it is not giving you any probs. leave it that way! Like Max Power says, you cant go back. Ford wont let you.
And, as far as the predator, check your caps for your coolant,as the preditor tends to make some 6.0's puke coolant all over the place, and the torqueshift will tend to shift hard with the predator and the Edge, while it shifts smoother with the SC 1704, but you dont get as high HP gains like you will with the other two. Then again, you could always try out the Banks 6 gun with the speed loader.
And, (I tend to ramble, sorry!) I think it's the predator that you need the latest flash for it to work anyway. Don't quote me, I may be wrong. I forgot to ask,is it a 6.0 or 7.3 ? You could have both in '03.
Enjoy your truck!Edited by: coolbeans
turbo43 07-07-2004, 12:54 PM Max Power,
How fast does your uncle drive to get 20 plus. Is it 4 wheel drive, crew cab, long box, dually or what? 20 plus seems pretty high unless he's driving 55 everywhere he goes.
roadturtle 07-17-2004, 10:47 AM http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Thumbs Up.gif I have a 2004 F-250 PSD Crew Auto woith 1200 miles on it. I get 15 - 16 mpg around town. I do about 99% city driving. I am very happy so far with my truck. Great power, great brakes, and my grandchildren sit comfortably in the back seat.
Rick Neighbors 07-19-2004, 03:24 PM Coolbeans,
What are you talking about, when you say "flashing". I have a friend that just bought a new Ford Diesel.
Thanks,
Rick
coolbeans 07-19-2004, 04:03 PM "Flashing" is when the mechanic attaches his computer to your truck's computer and downloads different programming into it.., what happens, then, is your truck operates ONLY according to the new flash, NOT the way it was before. Now, there are times a re-flash was good , because it cured the idle surges, romping, smoking, etc. of some trucks, while it would completely ruin the performance of others. Since every truck is almost an individual in it's own right, you are taking a hugh chance wether your truck is going to respond to your likeing. This was mostly a major problem with the early build 6.0's, as Ford discovered the trucks were not as EPA proficient as they wanted, so in the guise of offering you a free oil change, they would also re-flash the truck's computer to make it run to THEIR desire, NOT YOURS!!! .,the end result being you now owned a truck with no PILOT injection, no high idle warm-up, different acting tow-haul, and especially,a considerable LOSS OF POWER and PERFORMANCE! Not to mention the afore-mentioned problems it created in many, many trucks. Hence, Ford had to buy back lots of trucks, which a number of the new trucks had to be bought back as well, as the flashes for those also sucked. Like I said, my early build 6.0 was a runnin mo fo.UNTIL Ford ruined the thing, so when ford pulles it's head out of it's ***, I'll see what they have to offer, (like maybe a 400hp,700lb 6.9, in a f-350 dually 4x4! in '08-'09) We'll see. Enjoy your truck!

He's a 60mph kinda guy. That makes a big difference. My dad usually drives 65-75.
Both are 4wd crew cab short box 2003.Edited by: Max Power
