I have been reading a lot about desires to own the new 2007 models of the GM/Chevrolet Silverado w/the 4th Generation Duramax. I would like to mention a history of my own regarding new products introduced into any vehicle. I bought a new 1983 C-20 Chevrolet Suburban, w/6.2 ltr. diesel and the 700R4 automatic transmission in April, 1983. I still own it and it has about 210,000 miles on the original engine. No bad, not outstanding. However, during the life of the vehicle, I have had 4 rebuild's on the 700R4 4-speed automatic transmission. Most of them occurred during the first 130,000 miles of use. The first rebuild was beyond the factory warranty. I decided to have AAMCO do the rebuild. I also bought their "lifetime warranty" (which is not available anymore). The rebuild was about $1,000 and the lifetime warranty was about $500. I was very wise to buy the warranty, as 3 more rebuilds were covered, and any more are still covered. The AAMCO franchisee said before the 4th rebuild, "we'll get it right this time" and it seems they did. My point in all of this is, a "new" feature in the vehicle during the 1st or 2nd year may not be a smart thing to buy. Maybe the first year of any new model has a good chance to be a lemon. I know the 700R4 transmission was a "bust" for GM. I intend to keep my 1983 until the engine develops a very serious problem, then I will donate it to the dumb friends league. I believe the 2006 models of the Silverado are the safest i.e. most reliable investments one can make at this time.
