I was just wondering what the average oil consumption would be for our 6.5L motors.

There might not be an "average" consumption as mechanical condition varies engine to engine.
I use about 1/2 to 1 quart per fuel tank, some claim to use none.

I use between (1/3) and (1/2) a quart per tank. Probably closer to (1/3), with 190,000 miles on the truck. Edited by: w_huisman

I used about 3/4 of a quart between oil changes (~3000 miles). That's only when running it really hard. Usually never have to add any oil.

I go through a quart every fuel tank or two. 165,000 on truck, but I believe it's coming through the PCV on my truck. Probably should replace that.

I would say about 1/2 qt per fuel tank also.

I was under the truck(looking for where my fuel's leaking,it was return line #8 to #6 injector) and noticed the oil pan gasket is leaking.
I would think this is adding to the oil consumption as well as increasing the amount of crankcase vapors(blow-by).Edited by: quantum mechanic

New data. I have just over 147k miles now, using Rotella T Synthetic 5w40. Noticing some consumption now. Needed a little over 1/2 qt within 2 full tanks of fuel. Not sure if I will stick with this oil, but too early to tell.

Burning Rotella T 15/40 in 00 truck, maybe use 1/2 liter in 5000-6000 km's.

Running dino oil Delo or Rotella 15-40 3/4-1 qt for 1500 mi. & 89K mi on engine

You talking about CDR no PCV on 6.5 ??? go to FAQ I think GMCTDs post how it works has a test you can run to check it.

I lose about 3/4qt between oil changes @3000 miles, and I believe most of it is going thru the CDR. I'm working on a way to remedy that problem and still maintain legal and benificial crank case ventilation. I just passed 195K miles.Edited by: mattsparacio

Just changed my 00 over to Mobile 1 15W-50 full synthetic @ 168,200 km's. Says the pour point is -45C and operating temps to 205C, a little pricey but i think she's worth every penny, i think i'll change all diff's, tranny, transfer case and tranny over to full synthetic also real soon here. (maybe gain an extra second http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/smiley4.gif)

Canadian $8.85 ltr/quart, that would make it about $0.50 US... lol
