My truck is starting something new now - thought you guys might help me fiqure out whats going on - sometimes when I stop in traffic I'll notice a bunch of blue/grey smoke behind the truck and yes its coming from me. Not every time just once is while. I also notice that after parking the truck in the garage it really smells like a deisel now. I recently installed the Kennedy boost stick, ERG blocker and ditched the cat and have been towing my 5ver al ot getting in some end of the season camping. Anyway I thought it might be a dirty air filter but AFE says I shouldn't have to clean the element until its on for 30K miles - mine hasn't been on a year yet and maybe I've put 10K on it. Is it time for some fuel treatment? TIA.

May need to have your injector balance rate checked or see if there is any fuel in oil. May have some injectors going bad.

Well when you take the cat off you're probably going to smell it more but still shouldn't be too bad. I would try some fuel treatment and if that doesn't work take it in to check the injector rates.

Mine started smelling like a diesel when the exhaust was put on and the cat ran away. Mine also does the gray/blue smoke deal at idle in cold temps. Balance rate test would not be a bad idea, but seems to be pretty rare for a LLY to lose an injector, it can happen though.

Thanks - seems like the problem started with the colder weather and you're right about the cat - I would expect a little more exhaust smell now that its out. Because a trip to the dealer for a balance rate check involves putting the cat back in, removing the egr, edge, boost stick, etc I think I'll just try a some fuel treatment and keep an eye on it for now. Other than the occassional puff of smoke the truck runs great. What fuel treatment should I use? Any recommendations???

mine started the same thing thursday Oct 12 I just blamed it on fuel. It did it off and on for that tank haven't noticed it since. I burn about a tank every day

white/blue smoke at an idle is back again. truck has 115,000 mi. seems to be more so in the cold mornings even after the truck is warmed up. seldom see it later in the day. I probably let it idle less later also. Any thoughts?

No more thoughts on this end - mine is doing it pretty regularly now but only at stop lights and stop signs. I notice when I back my edge down to stock tune it seems to get better - the truck runs great otherwise. I need to find someone other than my dealer who do a balance rate check for me - anybody in northern CT with a tech II willing to test my truck's balance rates if I drive out to see you????

honestly id seriously have to wonder about the quality of the fuel we get, my 2005 which is all stock hazes smoke at idle every now and then and my fuel economy varies depending where i fuel up, i always blame the fuel as long as it feels like its running well

Ummmmm.........you just might have something there jland - my "problem" started with the swtich in fuel in my area. I wonder if there is any interaction with the new and old fuels in the tanks that we're not being told about that would cause this.

Put the winter front on and have open a little. Only need it totally open if your pulling really heavy. Make a big difference

I'm being told that my problem is because of bad fuel and that lots of other folks have had it. Whether is was the fuel I picked up at lake george or some funky local stuff but if I'm right I need to clean up an injector or two that won't close down enough at idle. I picked up a bottle of Summit diesel fuel treatment which should fix it - stay tuned.
