Hi guys,

Need a little help. My sons truck is starting to have some sporatic oil pressure readings. The truck has 183,000 miles on it but runs great, burns no oil, starts right up and even passed the last smog with a bad CAT converter!http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Approve.gif I bought it new in '94 (model is '95 2500HD) and we have maintained it ourselves to insure it was done right. We even keep the motor clean enough to eat off of. He just changed the oil and my thinking is that there is some sludge buildup that has worked loose and possibly getting in the way. Has anyone done the internal flush and how did you feel about it afterwards? Was thinking that it might also be time to give the injectors a cleaning, Any thoughts? Any other maintenance suggestions? Tranny has also been maintained regularly. This truck has pulled a few loads in it's time but has never let us down.

Thanks,

Chuck

I would also check the oil pump...with that many miles its got to be getting tired. Or a possible voltage drop ie. bad sending unit/gauge

I'm hoping it's not the pump. We'd like to take this thing to 250,000-300,000 before yanking the motor. Heck, I'd like to see any foreign job do what this truck has and still be running this good!

Hadn't thought about the sending unit or Gauge (factory). The unit is cheap enough so maybe we'll replace that this weekend and pull a resistance check on the wire. Thanks for the suggestion.

If you are looking for a good product to clean out the fuel system, checkout Seafoam: http://seafoamsales.com/ Just use per the instructions and it will clean out you fuel system really well.

Also Amsoil Engine Flush is a good product for cleaning out any oil sludge or harmful deposits in you engine: http://www.amsoil.com/products/aef.html

Hope this helps you out some. Take care...

I would not mess with flushing it at all as you are asking for trouble. On the oil pressure flux, I would say it is the sending unit or gauge as I have never seen a pump "flux" in pressure. When they get worn and tired that can cause low oil pressure but it will be stable. Also, if you ever have to replace pump, it is not the bad on a 5.7 in a truck as long as you can get the crankcase pan off. Edited by: snoman
