That's the hole that drains the water (and soot) out when your 6 year old decides that the inside of the exhaust pipe is dirty that he should wash it. Ask me how I know this.http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Confused.gif

If the muffler bearings are not sealed I should soon need new ones.http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Wink.gif

The new style muffler bearings are sealed and dont need to be greased. If you take the muffler apart you will see they are crome plated for long life. Besides the hole doesn't have a grease fitting in it. Almost all OEM mufflers have this drain hole diesel or gas.

I have decided to use synthetic relative bearing grease to repack my muffler bearings, I notice when I get on it real hard the factory grease melts off and causes a little black smokehttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/HiHi.gif

That explains why I put 4 gallons of grease in there before it started coming out the tailpipe http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Cry.gif

Atleast it was synthetic Schaeffers grease so it will last a long time.
