I recently bought a used 2002 Duramax with 41,500 on it. Has been a great truck so far. In the lase week or so I have been experiencing Idels surging when the engin is cold. The "Wait to Start" light is staying on a bit longer too. Anyone else had this problem? What might it be and cost to fix? Is it something a do it your selver could handle? Thanks

It is either because it is getting colder and the glow plugs will stay on for a longer duration, this is normal - I don't know how cold it has been where you are at, or your FPR fuel pressure regulator on the cp3 pump is acting up, I changed my cp3 pump and regulator at 55,000 miles $700 out of my pocket, could not get the dealer to fix it under warranty, you can take it too them, I follow many of the posts on here where the dealer has replaced just the FPR under warranty. I have an 02 dmax as well.

I had the same prob.... took it in and they replaced the FPR ... which seems to have corrected it for the most part. However, I still hear a bit of surging when cold, but not nearly what it was before they replaced the FPR. They also found that I had 3 injectors that were delivering too much fuel, which they replaced as well on my 2001.

I have heard that some of this might be caused by dirty injectors or filters. Has anyone had the FPR covered under the engine warranty? I was also told the cold weather can cause and it has been in the 30's the last week or two at night. I was also told that a fule additive can healp any experinces with additives? What are you guys running?

Yes, it is covered by the 5 year/100k warranty. My dealer tried to tell me it was caused by dirty fuel, to which my reply was "Am I supposed to ask the attendant if his deisel is crap. Warranty is just that, it is covered, it failed, fix it." Dealers that second guess the warranty irritate me, and I would bet they charge the customer, and then turn around and collect from GM for warranty repair.
