I didn't know what all the talk about web casting was until i had removed the upper intake, now i know. I didn't remove it when it was off as the tools weren't handy but i know what i'll be doing in the near future.

Thanks again guys! http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Clap.gifhttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Clap.gif

Hi,

there are two electrical components on the intake, a rectangular black one and some plug. I don't know what they are for, but you can remove the black one before cutting the web casting out.

After you cut it out, clean the upper intake very carefully with an high pressure cleaner. This not only removes any metal scraps that remain from the cutting, it also removes all the soot from it.

Black sensor is MAP, brass is IAT; once removed I used a shortened metal cutting jig saw blade in the saw to cut out excess webbing makes less mess & chips, then scraped out heavy carbon and used good degresaser detergent for remnants, hot water rinse and air blow dry after that should be sufficient. Worked for me anyway, don't forget the new gasket on EGR tower in center of lower intake silver "donut" gasket can/will leakEdited by: Turbine Doc

Get rid of all the webbing and while you are doing this and If you want to go through the trouble. ( It's is not that bad and absolutly worth the effort) remove the intake manifold and install the heavy duty intake gaskets with the plate that block off the EGR port and this will do away with any gunking up problem in your intalke and also that smoke you probably had at above 3/4 throttle. I would dremel out the intake on the snorkel by the rubber hose for better flo while you have it apart and dont forget to remove the rubber snorkel in the fender for better air flo if you have an older 6.5. That's what I did, and just install egr with new gasket and plug vac line. Also change the vac wastgate actuator to a manual one instead of vac it works great. You wont be sorry.Edited by: panhead9

The local parts store here has the same gaskets listed for both S and F vins. They sell Fel-Pro gaaskets. They do have them with the metal plate but only for J vin 6.2 engines. (C vin are the same part# as the 6.5's)
