I was at a place where the guy was filling up a tank from a tanker truck with ULSD and he showed me it coming out of the nozzle and it was bright green like gator ade and it didn't even smell like diesel:rolleyes:

I filled up at a Sunoco in Saginaw Michigan a week ago and the pump said Ultra Low Sulfur Diesel Fuel, and it was clear as water.

Last night I filled up at a flying J in Smithston PA and it also said Ultra Low and it was bright Green Gatorade color. So I do not know exactly what to think. At my local Sunoco here in WV, I filled up last week and they have Low Sulfur and it was a dark green like I was used to for years.

Any one else seen the colors difference?:help:

I've seen both colors here as well.
At a Mobil I stop at sometimes on my way home the stuff is crystal clear. At the Hess station where I usually fill up it's that transluscent green like gatorade and smells funky. Both are labeled ULSD. I haven't noticed any difference in mileage from the LSD to the ULSD & I use diesel kleen every tank.
One side note, when I filled up a couple of nights ago I got to see two morons blow up a DT466 when they tried to start it with about an entire can of ether. Don't know if the new fuel had anything to do with it, but they had sprayed so much into the intake that when it finally caught it reved to the moon, made a huge bang and stopped. Coolant was pouring on the ground when I left laughing my a$$ off.

I have see both as well. On my exit we have a Shell and across the street we have a Pilot (bigger truck stop type place) Both have the ULSD stickers and what not. The Pilot is bright green, the Shell is clear.

I have not noticed any difference at all between either of these or the previous LSD they had before. Then again, I am not sure when they switched.

It would be intersting if there was some logic to the clear vs. green deal. My understanding is it will/should be colored the bright green. So maybe the clear stuff is suposed to indicate it is not 100% ULSD but instead a mix of the old and new. Just a guess.

If you have not seen it this article is pretty good. Take care~

I read the article its pretty informative,as it says the stations are supposed to display the new sticker after that tank has been checked to contain the ulta low fuel i think,i wonder by chance if the color could be an additive?Dunno....maybe we will find out as time goes on.
I hadnt heard it was supposed to be green, thanks for the info!

Well, I know for sure the color is an additive. I am just not sure where they add it. My guess would be sometime before it gets to the station, but after the pipeline trip. I am also unsure if it is REQUIRED to be colored or if that only applies to "off-road" fuel. (that I know must be colored red). Guess we will just wait and see. Take care~

I thought it was a green color at the Exon here in Leonardtown, whereas I remember the old stuff as the color of your urine or my urine.

Tinted or clear (naturally) makes no difference. There is nothing good, pure, clean, or anything else about clear fuel.

In Japan fuels have to be clear for marketing (the Japanese think colored fuel is impure, or low quality), but it's pure marketing, and the requirement adds to the cost of fuel.

Some fuel olefinic or aromatic molecules have conjugated double bonds that resonate in the visible spectrum. Some don't. It's just how nature works. The added expense of finding and separating them would be a waste of money.

What color will they make the off road ULSF diesel so it can be differentiated from the LSF diesel for off road so it can be determined when someone is not paying the road taxes on it? hmmmm I bet we paid a lot for that recommendation. Let's see, yellow, clear, red, green, how about purple?

Fueled up the other day in Flint at a Sunoco and it was clear. Filled up again last night at the Mobil just off the e way in Clio and it was greenish. Seems that alot of the stations around here have changed over to ulsd...G

From Chevron AND other sites:

"The color of a diesel fuel is not related to its performance. As long as the fuel meets specifications, it will perform well in your engine. The natural color of diesel fuels has traditionally varied from colorless to amber. As refinery processing of the diesel fuel increases to remove sulfur the color has tended to get lighter and the diesel can change color. When it changes color the diesel is typically light in tone and can be green, orange or pink. Sometimes it might show a slight fluorescence when held up to light. Such a change in color does not affect the quality of the diesel."

Hate to scramble your eggs,):h but as of today, Flying J website says ULSD is not available in Smithston, PA. So, who knows what you filled-up with?? I checked my area Flying J's, and ULSD is N/A here too.

FWIW, I just filled up at the Quicktrip in Mid Rivers by me and the stuff appeared clear as water... Sticker on the pump said it is ULSD for Req for 2007+, recommended for all.

i just pulled this from the chevron website, interesting:)

Will S15 (ULSD) have a different color than the current S500 diesel fuel? The color of a diesel fuel is not related to its performance. As long as the fuel meets specifications, it will perform well in your engine. The natural color of diesel fuels has traditionally varied from colorless to amber. As refinery processing of the diesel fuel increases to remove sulfur the color has tended to get lighter and the diesel can change color. I have been buying mine from the Trip on Lilac, they have the new stickers and it was clear also. The Flyin J over in Pontoon has LSD still ,i guess i will start using it till it gets tatooed with the new sticker, never had a problem with trip fuel, kinda hate to change, but the J sells huge amounts of fuel,it auta be fresh.

I just stopped by my fill location (unbranded card-lock commercial fueling) to see if they had switched to USLD yet. They just did. The color is a blueish-green. It looks like blue Scope mouthwash or blue Gatorade. Interesting:rolleyes:

I was going to say that the dye in it is floresent so it depends on the light you see it in. When the sun hits it at an angle or under some stations lighting it looks greenish to me

You wonder if the oil companies made this new fuel to have lower MPG so they can sell more:rolleyes:
