My truck will not start in the mornings if it is close to being cold out side unless I plug in the block heater. By cold this time of year in my area I mean 50 deg. Which is odd because I didn't have this problem last winter, started just fine in 20 deg weather. The only diffrences are that I have put new marine injectors in, and running 5w40 synthetic Rottela w/1 of quart lucas synthetic. Would the oil or injectors be causing this issue? It would be a royal pain all winter to have to plug in my truck every night, and I think it would wear out the heater as well. Any ideas as to what is wrong?

Also the batteries are brand new red top optimas installed in August. The glow plugs are not even a year old and bought from ssdiesel supply. I installed them in Feburary, would they burn out that fast?

There was a supply of plugs that died early death not knowing which ones you have I'd be speculating, best check is to pull them and then connect to 12v direct, a good glow will heat the pencil pretty full length of the tip in 4 sec or under, if just center of plug glows it's on it's way out, they will read good with a meter, but are not working correctly unless they glow full length. Oh be careful that red part means it's hot ):h ):h ):h

Depends on which glows were in it, newer ones 11G series & up lasted longer, 60G is preferred OEM, Delphi has a heavier duty glow, I have had Kennedy quick heats in mine since 2001. Also OBDII 96+ years PCM controls the glow cycle so they should not keep cycling forever with key on

I checked the glow plugs and all of them are working properly, by checking them I pulled each one out and hooked it up directly to a battery for 4 sec. They all would get red for a good portion of the plug. I am going to put a new controller on today and see if that helps. Where can I find a new glow plug wiring harness, other than a dealership? When I bought the truck the wire that goes to the passenger rear glow plug was burned in two, I have had a temporary fix on it now for a year, I might need to go ahead and fix that. It was only 56 deg this morning and I had to crank on it for a good 30 sec for it to start and had quite a bit of white smoke, it stopped smoking once it ran for a few seconds.
Since I bought the truck, Jan 06, I have noticed that after the Wait to Start light goes off and I start the truck the light will come back on for about a second or two then go back off. It will do this somtimes once or up to 3 times. Is that normal?

The light should come on a few times after starting when cold, it's called after glow. Take a test light and see if you have power at the glows.

Fixed it, it was the glow plug controller not functioning properly. Once I replaced that I made sure all the plugs were working, had two plugs not working so I went ahead and replaced all plugs , just in case the rest decided to go bad.
