I bought a pyrometer/egt gauge for my 2004.5 Ram 2500 cummins. My question is the gauge goes from 0-16, what is the normal range for this gauge. I towed a 8000lbs travel trailer and I want to make sure I do not mess up something on my new little truck. Oh before I forget what about my boost range what is normal (I believe the range on this gauge is from -0 to -30 and from 0 to 30. Thank you http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Geek.gif

Hi,
If you get up to 1600 your cooked, it should run at 300 to 900 depending on the load.

You cant hurt it. The turbo is equipped with a waste gate which bleeds off extra boost before damage is done. The waste gate is necessary because the turbos were designed to give more low end boost. This naturally gives too much boost on the high end which brings us to the waste gate.

Egt is temperature not boost. Yes you can melt down your engine if you're crazy enough to hold over 12 (1200 degrees) for sustained lengths of time.
