I just went to a internet site called cars.com advertising available 2006 2500 Silverados with 3 different HP figures for the 6.6 Duramax. Is there some place on this forum which discusses these 3 different 6.6's? Dabney

Um, you're in it.

Theres only two configs in 2006.

LLY -- 310HP
LBZ -- 360HP

Pretty much the same engine with different programming.

The vans are detuned to 250HP.

BTW, if you want to know something about Dmax's, you should start reading here first. No other site has as much info as the Place. Welcome.

I want to thank you folks for all of the excellent information I have be receiving on this forum. It taught me how to find the block heater plug, and a lot of interesting information both historical and current about my new 2006 2500HD Silverado. I am now of the opinion it is the best vehicle for the individual owner, considering all of the cars, and pickups on the market. I believe that General Motors should be very proud of what their people have designed and assembled for the United States market. It is built like a tank or a Bradley Fighting Machine. Dabney

it should also be noted that the sticky discusses 06 LLY, LBZ differences to the older 04.5-05 LLYs

the 06 LLYs and LBZs are identical besides programming

i talked to the dealer today and asked him to run the ecm part# for the 06 dmax van, lbz truck, and lly truck, they all have the same gm part# and when ordered it is sent to the dealer blank. the dealer then programs the tune according to vin#, so the dealer can program just about any stock tune into this ecm and your away. therefore installing the lbz tune in a 06 lly dmax van should not be a problem, as per mr. goodwrench!

getting a lbz vin# is no problem --- www.ebay.com and you will find them

Glad we could help you, Dabney! Don't be shy to ask questions. There is also the search feature....you'll get answers to everything about your new truck.

As for the off-topic post......If you put an LBZ program in an LLY van, you can be darn sure that you'll be needing a tranny very, very, very soon after.

Actually there are 3 different tunes in 2006. Manual transmission trucks get the 300HP variant of the LLY with 520 lb-ft of torque. The figures reported above are correct for the Allison pickups.

Pussow, I wouldn't recommend putting an LBZ tune in a stock Express van unless you WANT to grenade the transmission. The Duramax is detuned in that application for good reason!!

Thanks for correcting me. I thought the ZF was not an option in 06 -- must be 07 its not.

how can i program my lly to lbz:help2:

Buy a programmer and load a 50HP towing program into the LLY. Just read through the Third Generation programmer section to find out which programmer people think is the best.

because when it was time for the 06s to come out GM was not done with their testing of the 360hp version tune so they released something they know the motor could handle

getting a lbz vin# is no problem --- www.ebay.com (http://www.ebay.com) and you will find themYes the actual hardware is exactly the same; the modules are shipped BLANK. The problem is that the VIN is also stored in the BCM (And I think it may also be stored in the SDM - not sure of this one). When the software is being programmed into the new ECM, it will look at the VIN stored in the BCM and determine if the truck is an LLY or LBZ and if the two don't match, you will get an error message and it won't load.

You would need something similar to EFILive in order to reprogram it correctly. The tools used at the factory can do it, but you are talking $30,000 for the tool plus direct access to the Engineering software in order to do it.

If he does that does he get a 350hp or 410hp...Does the programmer add to the current tune...or reprogram up to the new tune?
