: Efi Live or not?

Im new to the EFI live part of the form and have some questions and would like some opions. That being said my allison is stock and I plan on keeping it that way with the exception of adding a larger tranny cooler latter.

1. For starters do I have to have a lap top for V.1 to do tuneing? Or can I still use my P.C. that is about 70 feet away from my garage?

2. Should I have gadges? To prevent high EGT.s and to high of boost.

3. With my wishing on keeping the tranny stock. I relize that some venders offer "tow" type tunes free when you buy EFI Live from them. Might I be better off just getting a Predator of Hypertech witch would be cheeper? And what advantages would EFI Live give me over a programer in my situation?

Thanks Mike

u need to be able to reach the truck w/ a USB cable so less than 20' of wire.

unless u want to play, a predator or something similar is all u need.

maybe find someone close and buy a license from them to just put in a tow tune, that way u can do some adjusting w/ it.

towing u need EGT gauge but thats it.

Mike, whilst I don't want to discourage anyone from buying EFILive, keep in mind a license is only $99, so if you have someone in your area that is willing to meet up and give you a tune that is all you need to pay (plus whatever they might charge).
If you are considering a handheld tuner please consider that for not too much more money you get EFILive with a better scan tool than any handheld tuner can offer, plus access to all the tunes here on Diesel Place that can range from an economy tune to a tranny killer.

Cheers,
Ross

For under $800, you can buy FlashScan V-1 and a laptop computer. (I see laptops on sale just about every week for under $250, and many times for $199.) And for the $800 you can tune your current truck, then if you decide to trade it in, or add to your collection, and buy another 1999 or newer GM. you can tune it as well. That is just $400 each, then just $99 for each vehicle after that.
I am not an EFILive salesman, (I was asked by two different guys last night at the Charity Pull if I was a salesman, :) Maybe I am pushing EFILive too hard.;) ) I am just a very, very happy EFILive customer.

Does the EFILive work on the newer LBZ motors...

Their web site doesn't say it works. Has any one used it yet.

Thanks Tim and Ross.

HD MAX I see that your tranny is stock. Are you yourself doing the tuneing?

DURAMAX 6.6L Its on its way read here http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/showthread.php?t=101901

Im going to send off for a set of gadges from kennedy and give guy a call this week. OH and buy some beer for my mechanic friend that is going to tell my wife "no he's not going to blow up the truck"):h

The laptop I will use my kids. My kid said he could build me a computer that would ride inside the truck all the time. I would just have to kick down for a 5-10in monator. Shoot I wonder how much the FART CAN BOYS would trip on that? Live tuneing in a big heavy truck.

My Tow tune is stock tranny friendly and is included.

I'll be happy to speak with your wife and tell her it is all in the name of mileage, think she'll believe me? ):h

I'll add a couple questions. Are we limited to 20' of cord? I don't want to spend the extra cash for a laptop yet :o: . I don't have to be connected to the Net to tune do I? Maybe I should just get a laptop ):h .

I am not sure on the cable, but I was thinking it was 25' And you do NOT need to have internet connection to do any tuning. A laptop would help a lot, but if you wait a couple weeks and just go with the FlashScan V-2.0 you can do it all without a laptop.

I do have a stock tranny, but I have it running on its last leg, as a couple weeks ago, I limped it real bad, and thought it was done. It set a really bad code, but I was able to reset it, and so far, so good.
As for tuning, I have messed around some with tuning, and am running a Team Salad tune right now. (Which is a modified McRat tune>)

What's that going to run pricewise though? I assume that's a tuner type setup?
