The new GMT-900 cowl with the Dmax/Ally badging... All the HD's get the cowl. It seems to be more for looks then function, but I can't tell for sure.

Must be some type of cowl induction hood setup which has a similar effect to what the older chevelles and camaros had.

Not completely sure, thats just my guess.

I think you're right since it's only on the Chevys. The GMC has a regular all steel hood. If it was functional, I would think it would be on both.

i know its like beatin a dead horse but man that truck is still ugly -:t not sure if even the cowl can save the looks of that truck....

One of the biggest problems for the LLY's over heating was the under hood btu's and the inability to get rid of them. See the put up shut up thread that Fingers, TXChristopher and others were involved in. Im goin to stab that this is one of the methods they are using to scavenge heat from under the hood.

I would agree with DangerousDuramax but also with new emissions-:t the engines are going to run hotter yet. It is going to be interesting to see how they are going to keep the engines cool for the new 07's

It does not appear to be designed to function like a cowl induction system where the air pressure at the base of the windshield is higher when the vehicle is at speed thereby being available for the induction system, but rather for engine cooling as that vent is at the low pressure location -- lowering the pressure inside the engine compartment to evacuate air out of the back allowing better heat exchange front to back.

Heat makes power. As long as the temperatures are controlled -- not too high -- there's nothing wrong with it. Hot oil, within reason, cooler coolant make more power AND reduce emmissions.

Looks like another hard to clean piece of plastic for the sun to fade and crack. Maybe a little paint would help it out. If GM was after looks they should have went with a badged hood like DangerousDuramax's avatar.

judging by the picture of the r/f wheel you can see its on a new 3500 Dually not a fan of the front end of the truck and not sure what to think bout the hood im sure there following the other manufactures and making the insides like luxury cars ... not sure where GM is goin with this one glad i got an 07 classic!

If it's only on the passenger side, it has to be lined up with something on that side of the engine compartment right? (can't tell in the full hood picture if it's on the driver's side too)

It looks like it's used to balance out a 3-level wing on the back of the truck. Or perhaps a 12" dia exhaust tip and a 9" tach.

that is not the cowl panel. the cowl panel is right behind it. that thing is mounted to the hood. it kinda looks like it is off center, on the passenger side. my bet is it is functional, maybe a fresh air duct. wil

best bet is that the cowls are fake...any company that ever had a chance to add power by cooling through scoops/cowls rarely makes it for more than looks. btw that is the most obtrusive front bumper ive ever seen from any light duty truck.
