Made a fast 280 mile round trip a couple days ago and averaged 19.9 mpg. Held the speedo at 70-75 mph most of the time. Think I get better mileage without the cruise control. No additives this tankful either.

But watch out for the grumpy 16mpg club - you just may get labeled as a liar... ;)

That's similar (19-20mpg) to what I get unloaded, keeping it at about 70.Edited by: conradv

Hi All. I have found that I get better mileage without the cruise control too.. 70 seems to be a good speed..I think the cruise is harsh, it will keep the speed set and will dump fuel to do it.If I see a hill I will keep foot pedal about the same and watch the DIC.I may slow a little and then gain as I top the hill. This really showed up when pulling a 26 ft Jaco..running cruise was killing me about 6 mpg ,8 on a average. No cruise and running up a little before the hills and letting the engine work and gaining over the top I was getting 11.7 on average .This was tested with both TOW in and out..Jaco 5th wheeler is about 7200 lbs. No load I get 19 to 22 if I can keep it 70 or less.It wants to run and some SUV like to push a little till the turbo kicks in.I did run about 300 miles hard and got 14 to 16 mpg and that was 75 to 85 mph, wife being taken to Hospital.. I have to laugh at some of these clowns....put on big, big oversize tires, juice their motors, drive at 80 mph or more, and then call everyone who gets decent mileage a liar. Who knows if they are even correcting for the speedo error caused by the oversized tires.

In mixed driving I am disappointed if I get less than 20. Everything stock except for secondary fuel filtration.

I bought my 01 4x4 extended cab SB in Utah. I live in New Mexico. It was bone stock with 38k miles and I drove it back from there and got 20mpg the whole way with cruise most of the time cruising at 75 or a little over the whole way also. I then got 17mpg in the city when I got back. I've since put on a Rancho 4" lift, 295/75/16's with 16x10 wheels and a Predator set on the 65hp setting. I just burned up a tank of fuel and the whole time kept the rpm's at 2200 or under, which was very hard with the Predator, and I got 17.3mpg. All my mileage was hand figured and topping the tank to the filler each time. My speedo is also corrected and verified on my GPS. I've very curious about what I will get on the highway. If I can pull close to 20mpg again, i'll be very happy. We'll see. It's all in how you drive anyway. The tank before the last city tank, I was having fun with the Predator and got about 16.2mpg. Just my experences for everyone.
