My carrier bearing rubber is destroyed  and I need to replace the whole thing I assume,so I go into NAPA and they tell me there is 3 options for my 01' and they have no clue which one it is   . I have my driveshaft out now and plan to take the bearing off but I'd like to just be able to get a new one ordered and be on my way without guessing if they'll get me the right one. The truck needs to be up and running again by Wed cause I'm going Elk huntin'. Any ideas which part I need? It's an 01' ex-cab longbed 4x4.
If you get in touch with a GM dealer, you can give them the vin and they might give you the information you need. Helps if you know someone who works at the dealership parts. I have always known at least two differ. people at two differ. GM parts places to get info. and get the best prices...

The dealer will tell you you'll have to have a new driveshaft, they tried to tell me it cant be replaced, turns out mine wasnt even bad to start with though, but you can replace them, I belive it will have to be pressed back on though.

I cut it off today :( . Censored thing was really stuck on. It's definately replacable. The bearing wasn't too bad but the rubber was allowing the driveshaft to flop around :badidea: and I was getting a vibration. A P/N would be nice. I wrecked the flanges or whatever they are too getting it off :( .

I ordered mine from http://www.gmdieseltech.com/store2/. Eric can give you the part # if you give him the vin. The original is made by Spicer and comes as one piece (bearing, rubber, and the mounting bracket). It does have to be pressed back on. He told me that several were available and he needed the vin to verify which one I needed, so NAPA is on the right track you just need to get them a good part #.

So PM Eric with my VIN and he will give me a P/N?

What does a new carrier bearing cost? If it were me i'd put that money towords a new single piece driveshaft. A new shaft from a driveshaft shop can be made for under $300. JMO.

That was one of my thoughts but I need it back by Wed night.
