went and got a 30,000 mile check up done on my truck. the guy told me i need to get a tranny flush. here is the deal.

at about 15,000 miles i hit a deer and broke the trans cooler line. coasted about 300 feet. stopped. tranny fluid still coming out. took to dealer, they said tranny was shot. WHATEVER! any way got a new tranny.

now at 35,000 miles the dealership says i need to do a tranny flush. he says it looks dirty.that's only 20,000 miles on that tranny. with no real; towing! could that be. i changed my external filter on the new tranny. would i need to flush already?????? thanks for any help.

another question. if i buy a new external tranny filter, does it come with the magnet????? i don't remember seeing one when i took the old one off!!!! uh ohhttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Ermm.gif

Every shop around has bought a flushing machine for more revenue. Machines cost 3K and up. Somebody has to pay for that puppy, and they will sell you a flush on everything under the hood. I have people that come to my shop with new cars ( 5K miles or less) and have had everything flushed). Some flushing systems dump a bunch of addatives in the system to clean out everything. I feel that its like taking an 80 year old person to the doctor for a transfusion with a little (feel good) mixed in. Then we all sit back an watch and see if the poor bastard will walk out on his own.http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/HiHi.gif

OK http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Ermm.gif

No you don't need a flush unless your working it to death ... IIRC it's recommended at 50,000 ..... The external filter change is at 5000 and then each 25,000 mile intervals there after....

No a magnet does not come with a new spin on .... Ask the dealer what they did with it ,maybe you'll get anouther tranny ....

ummm, OK. So i won't get the flush.

by the way, the magnet was there from the last time i changed the filter. whew! close one. Thanks for the info. The only thing i have towed so far since the new tranny is a 2 place enclosed snowmobile trailer. so it never worked hard. Thanks!!!http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Hug.gif
