I did a search but could not find answers to these questions. Sorry they are so basic. What is the horsepower rating of a j code engine vs. a c code? Are there different horsepower ratings for California engines vs. non CA engines? What years were 6.2's made? Was it 1981 to 1991? Was there an overlap year with the 6.5? Were j and c code engines made during all of those years? Were 6.2's ever used in a car? I have considered swapping a 6.2 into a Jaguar(and making it 4x4). Here in California you can do engine swaps and you can convert a gas vehicle to diesel but you can't use a pickup engine in a passenger car. I was wondering if perhaps the 6.2 was ever approved as a replacement for the 5.7 diesel? I had heard somewhere that the Cummins 4bt was approved (approved by whom, I'm not sure-either GM or the EPA or both, I guess) as a replacement engine for the 5.7 diesel and was wondering if the 6.2 had received the same approval.

The tag on the aircleaner of my 82 6.2 J code engine says it's 145hp.

most will state at around 150hp. i have rebuilt and seen 225hp on dyno @ 2350rpm. but that becomes real expensive.
