I'm thinking about it. Heard some people that liked their Power Pup, and I'm not looking for huge power.

Its a box, right? So that means you can adjust for tire sizes and check and erase trouble codes, where a tuner lets you defuel if the tranny slips, etc.

But I'm not too "up" on these yet. What's the diference in a box and a tuner? (In how they work)

Does one change injection length and timing, and the other just raise rail pressure?

How does the Bully dog work?

All tuners or boxes alter the fuel delivery amount and timing.

A tuner re flashes the ECM and changes the file........it has to be unloaded to install a new tune or restore the stock tune. By using a tuner to re flash the ECM some can unlock the speed limiter and recalibrate the tire sizes and gear ratio's in the axles as well as reset trouble codes.

A box or piggyback module intercepts the stock programming signals, alters it and does not effect the stock ECM's program.

Some boxes allow shift on the fly adjustments for power levels, etc.

Van Aiken & Edge come to mind.

You also have the option of a custom tuned ECM that will give you whatever you need for tire sizes, speed limiter, etc.

TTS offers that here.

As far as the fuel rail pressure, for low HP desires it is not needed so I would not worry about it.

The Bully Dog has been discussed, I have never owned one so I could not comment on it.............members here have them, just check out some SIG's and ask.

Had it on my truck, shifted funny at first then the Allison learned. I liked it overall. I will be getting another one..

I looked at the Power Pup. Went witht he Edge. The Edge does not watch for slippage in the tranny and I believe, might be wrong, it increases injector PSI not pulse width. With the problems I have read about and injectors sh*tting the bed at normal operating PSI, no way.

The Edge also has the Attitude that replace gauges which you need if you are adding any power, IMO. This lets you shift on the fly as well, the power pup will not.

My thoughts exactly about increasing the pressure. Normal pressure seems to be enough for them to handle, so I definitely don't want anything that increases it. Does anybody know for sure if the bully dog does this or not?

So are the bully dog and Edge both boxes? (So they don't replace the stock programming, just communicate "in line" with it?) I like the idea of leaving the stock programming intact, where you can just remove the box and be back to stock without doing any programming and reprogramming.

But I have read that the bully dog can get rid of the speed limiter and reprogram for tire sizes. So can boxes and tuners both do that?

Does anyone know how the reprogrammers such as Superchips and Hypertech get the torque and power out? PSI increase? Timing? Pulse width? Curious as they don't cost as much as the others such as the Edge. Thanks.

?? im confused - you said no way to the edge because of increased PSI but you went with the edge ?? just trying to figure it out and maybe shed some light

I do not think Edge Products increases rail pressure.

I have the pup and have it in the low setting. Trans takes a while to adjust but it makes a difference with towing, (5000) boat. also it will let you adjust tire size and for sure will run over 120 mph. No smoke an engine is as quiet as when it was new. did not notice fuel milage increase. have not tried any of the higher settings as what I do I dont need them. Plug it in under dash and go back to stock in less than 5 min. Hope this helps but if you wanna go faster get ready to spend a bunch cause you gonna tear it up.

Okay guys to clear things up, there are only 3 boxes that add rail pressure (psi) Duramaximizer, Van Aaken Pressure box, and Banks Six Gun Speedloader. Edge is a box, the bully dog power pup is a tuner, they both change pulse width and timing. A tuner can change tire size, check codes ect, like the Bully Dog, Predator, Quad, Hypertech, Superchips, Xcellarator.

Plugs in like the Juice under the hood .... The VA Pressure boxes only connect to the larger of the big bale connectors and the the MAP sensor ....

The Later or current VA connects like the Juice ,both bale connections thats it ....

If you hook the switch up to the VA it can be wherever you mount it in the cab. Then you have switch on the fly.

Mine is mounted in the console to the right of the coin slots.

I have mine mounted underneath the dash, but I can still reach on the fly. If you look under the dash there is a steel plate running across, there are several round holes, one needs to be drilled out slightly bigger and they switch will mount right up. Out of sight, unless you know its there.http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/HiHi.gif
