I had my truck out the other day and I had a downshift into second that was so hard I thought I ran something over. I was able to repeat it once the next day and it shook the whole truck. It only seems to do it when it's cold and I excellerate hard then coast down. Right as it downshifts into second, 33 mph, I get the thunk. Changed the spin on filter and no metal shavings. Took her for a ride yesterday and it smooths out as it warms up. I checked the tranny fluid when I got home and it seemed slightly over filled and it was foamy. I drained about 1/4 qt out and I will take it out again today. I have had TranSynd in since the 200 mile point when the trans pump seals went out. I'm at about 23k now. Spin on changed at 200 miles, and 7,000 miles. I have had some temp spikes above normal. Yesterday I was at 160 ish and it was normal temp outside, mid 70's. I usually run in the 120-130 range. No performance mods or chips. Any Thoughts or similar experiences ? http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Cry.gif

You need to scan. There is no diagnosing anymore on any automatic trans without a scan. You can either replace everything under the hood ( seat of the pants diagnosing) and see if that fixed it or, just maybe, fix the wire or connection that is causing the problem.

I drained about 1/4- 1/3 of a qt of tranny fluid to get the level accurate. It made a difference and I have not had any more hard shifts. I also have no more foam on the dip stick when shes hot. The other thing I did was clean my air filter out. On my '02 I always ran a K&N. I used to think they were great. I ran one the first 15k on this truck. Then I switched back to OEM. So with 7k on it I take the filter out and it was FILTHY ! Knocked it out and was amazed at how much crap was in it. Seems to be back to normal now. I guess it's time for me to get Eric to install one of those Edge chips http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Cool.gif

The amount of fluid one way or anouther shouldn't make any differance ....
The foaming in it self is interesting although ....You have the oringinal factory fill and fluid ??
I would just chalk it up to the Allison learning process for now as it isn't repeating ...
I have had some decent downshifts in the rain where I have lost traction and my hips were coming around ... The Allison is a very HD tranny ...

Thanx for the help guys http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Approve.gif Mackin, It's not the origional fluid. My trans pump seals went at about the 200 mile mark. The dealer filled with TranSynd then. I have changed the spin on twice since. 7k and 22k. I guess I slightly over filled it last time. The foam was minimal but enough when the dipstick was removed and the trans was hot that you could not read it due to all of the bubbles. It really suprises me that such a small amount made a difference. I think overall that some of this, if not all is coincidental. IE a intermittant problem that quit after I kicked the tire http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Clap.gif ! I have never had such hard downshifts in the past so it was certainly disconcerting. I have driven through a S^&* load of dirt and rock and mud over the bumper this year. I have been in a few flooded areas that were like driving through rivers. A very rough spring on the truck. Recently I had to spend a hour underneath flushing all of the crud off the truck. My skid plates were packed full of rock and dirt. It wouldn't suprise me at all if I just had a bad connection someplace. It certainly has me thinking TransGo and Juice ! http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Hug.gif
Eric are you putting those kits in yet ?????? Please get ahold of me with a cost on the kit and the chip. I'm taking the boss to Stratford for her Birthday next weekend.
