I am attemping to make my 2001 LB7 idle quiet. I have tried adjusting timing and pilot inj. quanity and timing with little to no change. Is there any advice some of you can offer??
Also sometimes it is quiet and sometimes it is loud:confused:

When it's getting loud then soft is when the vanes are adjusting open and closed in the turbo. The DMax is already the quietest of all the TD's. Dont think your going to get it any quieter. I could be wrong on that. Any EFI Live experienced tuners know how to make it even more quiet?

No VVT in my 2001 truck;) . I would like for it to be as quiet as my LLY:o: .

Why you hear it getting loader and quiter, it is switching from Pilot timing table D to C. You could try using the pilot and main injection timings from your LLY but I dont know what that is going to do. The LLY has other changes that help it sound the way it does. Let us know what you find, I am sure you would make a lot of LB7 owners happy if you found a way to make it quiter.

If your LB7 is some times quiet and sometimes loud on its own without programming adjustments, then you may need to "watch" the Fuel Rail Pressure while idling. You may just have an FPR going south on you.
I noticed that while performing injectors checks with TechII (on previous truck) that while commanding higher (and higher) rail pressures increased the idle clatter of my truck...:)
Have you tried slightly retarding your Main Inj timing to decrease idle clatter?
Good Luck!
