On my 2004.5 there is a shield on the drivers side that goes from the front side of the cab bottom and extends back about 12-14 inches. It starts at the cross memeber at the front of the cab floor. Part number is 15035337. It is made from thin aluminum. It doesn't seem be "protecting" anything, other that being in the way to mount my oilguard filter.
So what is it there for? www.gmpartsdirect lists it as a shield.

Are you talking about the one under the transfer case?

Nope, forward of that. It starts right where the firewall comes down to the floor pan. There is a u-shaped member running across the floor pan at that point. the shield is bolted on this with a couple studs spot welded(?) to the cross member. Transfer case shield is nice and stout, this is heavy duty tin foil.

I can't picture it. If someone else doesn't know I'll look at one when I go back to work.

I think your talking about a heat shield or sound shield.

Here is a previous install http://dieselplace.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=3438&PN=1 The second picture, the shield attachs to the same place the oilguard does and runs towards the back. Patrick mentioned a sound shield, perhaps because when I took it off I certainly see anything that needs to be sheilded.
Thanks for looking into it.

I would only be guessing but I would agree with Patrick.
