: loss of power uphill??
Wickedsprint 06-25-2004, 02:38 PM So I was messing around with some suburban going up this huge hill that is about a mile or two long. I go to floor it and it initially wants to go, then falls flat on it's face. Rpms were roughly 2200 in 6th. It would not go over 90 mph on a hill I have had zero problems hitting over 100 climbing. 90 could be maintained with cracked throttle but flooring it gave a surge and then back to 90..like it was a limiter. Egts never went above 850, even when floored they just stayed the same. Truck had slightly less than 1/4 tank. Is it possible I was getting fuel starvation? Truck would accelerate normal on straight and level ground.
mannytranny 06-25-2004, 02:55 PM Plugged fuel filter?
What were your boost numbers?
Would it be possible that you sucked air out of the tank for a second because of steepness, and acceleration?
Wickedsprint 06-25-2004, 03:36 PM Fule filter is less than 10k old..it wa smaking adequate boost...consistent with the egts at least..around 15 psi or so.
mannytranny 06-25-2004, 07:58 PM Geeze, at WOT @ 90 mph, you should be making full boost.
Ide change that fuel filter. 10k is a long time for a stock one.......I changed mine at 6k until I got the CAT.
Wickedsprint 06-25-2004, 08:26 PM When I filled the tank it did not do it. I re-did the math..it has like 6k on it..gonna change it next weekend.
Diesel Tech 06-25-2004, 08:53 PM There are limiters in the code that will do this if the ECM sees a problem. Guys call it limp mode with the Allison but the manual transmission has the safetys too. It could have been low fuel but keep an eye on it.
Wickedsprint 06-25-2004, 09:50 PM Well I do have the overboos still tripped, have not got around to resetting it yet..will that code cause this..agfain..it does not do this on level ground..only up this wicked steep incline.
Mackin 06-26-2004, 09:14 AM I'd imagine with a code stored and possible that while under load a soft code maybe being thrown you may have a few Cutback going on ....
Have you pin pointed why you keep throwing OverBoost codes ??
Exhaust, air intake, dirty Mass Air, bad Map sensor, loose connections ???
Mac
Yes overboost will cause it. Could me a sensor problem or problem with the MAF sensor.
My 01 did the same thing. It was a hassle trying to get it fixed as I was running propane and had gauges. One place looked at it an found my aircleaner dirty (Amsoil). He said put the stock one in and that might fix it.... didn't.
What eventually fixed it was the Juice. It stifles overboost sense.
Wickedsprint 06-26-2004, 11:59 AM I put the stock airfilter back in...amazingly not too huge a difference on egts..naybe 50 degrees at any given rpm when WOT. I reset the overboost. It gets the overboosts o consistently I would bet a thousand dollars to someone I can predict when it will throw it. It is always up the same hill..half way up..with the cruise set higher than 70. Also has a wicked 2000 rpm surge that is a pain to drive smoothly. If BARELY touching th thottle you can notice it..watch the revs slowly hit 2000..then the truck jerks like I just stabbed the gas. I thought about callin quad on it, but I don't wanna go throught he hassle others have, because otherwise it runs well and I don't feellike being a lab rat for someones custom tuning. I can drive it smoothly..but it takes alot of concentration and early shifts when in traffic..you almost have to lug it in the first 3 gears or get acclimated to just letting off a hair as it hits 2000 to keep a smooth run through the gears in traffic.
Mackin 06-26-2004, 12:19 PM I only threw a Over boost once or twice with the Quad programmer ...
My problem was stumbling and shut down at highway speeds ,all levels of performance .... Now that was challenging to drive ...
You should check out the TTS Power programs as an alternative to performance and Tire size and speed limit defeat ...
No codes or issues to date smoooooooooooth on my ride ....

Wicked.... mine did the same on uphills. I could predict when it would happen. It simply defueled. I let up and waited a good 15 seconds or so then accleration came back.
Juice cured it completely!
Wickedsprint 06-26-2004, 02:02 PM will juice work with a 6 speed?
I don't know. Others will chime. I believe so.
Mackin 06-26-2004, 06:03 PM With the Attitude it will ...

It will work without the attitude as well but you'd have to set it with an automatic. http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Disapprove.gif
Wickedsprint 06-27-2004, 03:01 AM oh that is no fun
Diesel Dually 06-29-2004, 12:49 PM Update?
Wickedsprint 06-29-2004, 08:28 PM Update..sorry, it seems to be fixed with resetting the code and filling up the tank.
hdmax 06-29-2004, 09:20 PM Geeze, at WOT @ 90 mph, you should be making full boost.
Ide change that fuel filter. 10k is a long time for a stock one.......I changed mine at 6k until I got the CAT. Wow! Manny you must have dirty diesel out there.
I change mine every 20,000 or there a bouts, and cut them open. they are never more then about 5/8 dirty up the sides. I do also have a post filter sense 27,000 miles, but that does not make a difference in the factory filter.
