I have a new 2004 2500HD Dmax (LLY) that I bought to pull a 12,000# fifth-wheel. The truck only has 3,000 miles on it and has already had the EGR valve and the TURBO replaced. I am now having trouble with the engine cutting out or bogging down under a load (with fifth wheel attached) when pulling up a grade. Eventually the issue clears up but the engine does not have much power immediately following the issue. Then eventually that clears up as well. The problem is very intermittent and never happens when running empty.


Have any of you guys seen this problem before? I have an appointment at the dealer on Monday to have it looked at.

The dealership has now informed me that the Catalytc Converter needs to be replaced. They believe that it is defective and is causing additional back preasure on the exhaust which is cauing the EGR to be held open.


FYI... This is the first year that the Duramax has had an EGR or a converter on it.


What next?

IMO I don't think that's going to fix it, maybe, but I doubt it. Is your LLY throwing any codes??

How's this for a new truck:


1) Delivered on May 5th, 2004


2) EGR replaced on May 18th


3) Oil Leak on June 1st


4) Turbo replaced on June 1st


5) Driver door check strap replaced on June 15th


6) Catalytc converter replaced on June 29th.


7) Back at the dealer, with loss of power issue while towing on July 1st.


8) Turbo boost sensor replaced on July 1st


9) Engine still experiencing loss of power while towing.


Any ideas what's next? Has anyone else had these issues?Edited by: groten
