: Trading 2500HD for 3500HD - How bad $wise

My wife wants to upgrade to a fifth wheel with a dry pin weight that will put us over the GVWR on my 2003 K2500HD D/A CC SB 4x4 SLT with 25k miles. I've found a smaller trailer, but I'm not sure the wife is going to be as happy.

I have no problem spending the money for the trailer. But, I'm concerned that trading in my truck for a K3500HD D/A CC LB 4x4 SLT is not going to be as affordable as I would like. I'm not sure I can swallow the cost of both upgrades. I would be willing to get a used K3500HD with similar mileage. I am picky about taking care of my truck. So, I'd probably be more comfortable with a certfied used vehicle.

Can someone give me some sort of idea how much it will set me back to trade my 2500HD truck for a used 3500HD with the same options and similar mileage? I think the only difference I would get would be to get a long bed. (I just wish I'd spent the extra $1k or so last year! http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Cry.gif )

Anyway, thanks for any ideas or suggestions. Edited by: tundracamper

If I were you I would look into adding air bag suspension in the rear of your 2500HD and kepting your existing truck. How much would you be over? Edited by: BassinRVer

How much over weight will you be?

You could sell your truck privately for alot more than a dealer would give you on a trade and then swing a really good deal on a 3500 and if it would work out, you might come out even with some of the new rebates, etc.

I agree; trade your wife for a newer model.

Tundra,

Well as far as your truck... from www.nadaguides.com (http://www.nadaguides.com) ..I came up with trade in retail for about $32,350 and retail $36,350 ( these prices are for up here in the Connecticut market... could be a little different)

as far as trade in value on your wife... well as you know you never get back what you put out .... trade in value ... $ you pay $40 ... retail for new unit $ an arm and a leg.. and sometimes loss of an ear... so that you dont have to listen to the complaining ....

Unless you want a dually do the airbag or similar mod and you'll raise your weight limit safely.
