: AFE Air intake?
2001Stroke 06-25-2004, 02:43 AM What's up diesel junkies. Brand new here. I have an '01 Powerstroke and I am going to put a new intake on it. I saw where the AFE stage II says a 50hp gain. Just wondering if anyone has one or knows what the best intake for my truck may be.

The AFE Stage 2 is a excellent choice. My customers are always happy with them and state a seat of the pants increase in power, faster turbo spool and usually a drop in temperatures. As for the 50hp claim its alittle high in my book but it does make a big difference.

dagiani 06-25-2004, 04:34 PM i have the afe stage 2 in my 2000 7.3l powerstroke. i dont think it actually 50hp. but it sure feels like it. it makes a huge differance. and compared to the stage one or the other little intakes its not that much more in price. it well worth every penny
2001Stroke 06-29-2004, 01:59 AM Do you think it is better than the K&N, as far as performance goes?
dagiani 06-29-2004, 01:18 PM yes i think it is probably better than the k&n. i have heard some bad thinbgs about the k&n for diersels. i think they allow dirt in the engine. im not sure. but AFE makes it filter mostly for diesel. and the stage 2 intake is probably the best out there.

04_F350 07-29-2004, 12:01 PM The AFE has one extra layer then the K&N filter. I believe when they tested it on the 03 6.0 it increased the 1/4 by 3/10s and that was all they changed.
I have it on mine and noticed the throttle repsonse improvement right away.

Bobcat698 08-08-2004, 03:29 PM You shouldn't have any warranty problems with an intake..
Check out my site, I have some things that won't affect your warranty at all:
Ford Products (http://www.blackclouddiesel.com/Ford/fordhome.htm)
The AFE intake will help throttle response, but the best overall would be to put exhaust and an intake on.
You should also check out the Turbo Air Guides, they are now available for the 6.0L and help a lot.
Let me know if I can help.
maxinDixon 08-12-2004, 11:56 PM I had the AFE intake on my '02 7.3 PSD Ex. I live down a gravel road so lots of dust. Found dirt in the intake tube and the AFE was factory oiled. Sold the AFE and bought the Ford AIS heavy duty filter. Can't tell on seat of the pants, power seems to be the same, fuel mileage is unchanged and best of all, intake is now clean.

Was that a Pro-guard 7 filter?
I ran up and down a dirt road and my AFE filter didn't let ANY dirt at all in.
