Just wandering if anyone has experienced an odd sound coming from what seems to be under the hood after the torque converter locks up in 4th gear? I know the LBZ does not have a wastegate, but that is the sound it sounds like. Its kind of a growling sound. Doesn't do it if I'm really on it. Any one else?

If it sounds like a groan during light or moderate throttle it's from the TCC solenoid. The solenoid that is used in the pre-MY06 trucks will sometimes cause the valve to flutter while it is engaging resulting in that noise. Fairly common problem but it's nothing to worry about, it's just annoying.

Would this have anything to do with the decreased exhaust opening in the casting of the converter flow valve?

No, I don't think so. The real fix was going from the PWM (pulse width modulated) to a VBS (variable bleed) solenoid for the TCC circuit.
