For those who have done significant upgrades with amps, components, subs etc or those you are in the know. I have a 2004.5 Chevy 2500 HD D/A and am looking to do significant upgrades to the sound system

Is there a good enough adapter to attach amps to the factory head unit and still get a really clean signal. My stereo shop said go with the peripheral but they said they run it off low level and they said there would be a significant difference.

I would like to go with a aftermarket head unit (alpine iva900) but I am concerned with all the things GM has built in(on star, steering wheel controls etc). Do good adapters exist so I can keep this stuff?

I have my amps and components and plan to build a custom sub box but I don't know much about the factory head. Please let me know which direction I should take. Thanks

My box is a prefabed box made by PROBOX. I currently have two Image Dynamics IDQ10 10 incher in it (they fit perfectly at 5.5 inch mounting depth). I also will be modifying my box to fit two 10W3D2 in it. The mounting depth on the JL are a little deeper than what this box will hold. Here is another link for prefabed box. The Avalanch trucks boxes fit our crew cab trucks. Well I can not find a link. But type in subwoofer boxes in your search engine. I came across this box at a local stereo shop. But there are several companies making boxes for our truck. DO CONFUSE THE EXTENDED CAB TRUCK BOXES AS THOSE BOXES WILL NOT FIT OUR CREW CAB TRUCKS.

YEs it worked.... I didn't find that box anywhere on the net yet. Ebay has a couple dudes selling one that will work in the crew cabs, but im just trying to see what works best. Their mounting depth for the Ebay one is even less.

I got the one from subbox.net. 2 10's with .5 airspace each sealed. I paid the extra $30 for oem color carpet that is 5 shades off. Save your money. box fits under seat ok, but behind seat speakers and under seat amps is how I would go, if I did it again.

I have 4- 6.5" infinity kappa door speakers and 75wx4 per channel amp for the doors. I first installed them with the oem head unit, but didnt compare to the aftermarket alpine unit i have now. The doors sound crystal clear even very loud.

Just my .02

On that site it says something about a bracket on the passenger side? What are they talking about? Do i need to worry about that? And do you think I can get a JL 10W3 in there with some work? (spacer on the front of the box?)

tws_andrew, adapters do exist for these trucks, probly cost a couple hundred bucks depepending on what you want to do exactly. I have a alpine IVA-D900 DVD mounted in the lowest cubby hole and wired it into the aux input on the factory unit. ill try to find the list of all the adapters and modulators i needed for this and post it.

www.jpcustoms.com (http://www.jpcustoms.com) has the interface adapters(PAC audio or something like that) you need. His user id on here is Pendlum(I think). Send him a PM or email and he can tell you what you need.

The bracket on the passenger side is just the jack mount. No biggie, I threw it in my toolbox.

As far as the subs. When I called them they said 5 1/8" depth-thats it. There is about 1.5" from the face of the speaker and the floor of the truck. Doesnt leave much room for a spacer. Look into a behind seat box. saves underseat storage access. also, I have babyseats in my truck (the kids added weight helps get traction) so folding the seats down never happens anyway. Just something to think about.
