Hello All,

http://dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Ermm.gifI just picked up a '98 GMC Suburban 2500 from the original owner, 142k miles, truck was cared for nicely and not abused. I like it alot and intend to (over) maintain it like I do all my machines.

I have a couple of questions, please excuse me if the thread is old (I have been perusing this forum and absorbing info):

1. My truck's original sticker shows optional locking differential, but the code in the glove box indicates 'limited slip' (G80 I believe). Is there a code for locking, and what type of locking diff is it?

2. what are the fluid capacities for a) L80E auto trans (with cooling) b) transfer case c) rear diff, d) front diff ?

Thanks!

dont hold me to it, but the front diff takes a little over 2 quarts, the rear takes a little over 3 quarts, and the transfer case takes just under 2 quarts. i'm not 100% positive on these because i can't remember how much i put in mine when i changed it. when i dropped the tranny pan, changed the filter, and flushed out the torque converter by unscrewing one of the tranny lines in the radiator, i remeber using about 18 quarts. u can use more or less depending how bad the old fluid is. i ran out of fluid so i quit flushing mine but i probably could have used 20 or more. mine doesn't have the cooler so yours will probably take more.

i don't know if there is a locker or just the limited slip. mine has the g80 limited slip.Edited by: steiner43511
