: Emergency Tools and Supplies
ag4gt 06-24-2004, 08:17 AM I was wondering if anyone carries emergency tools and supplies in their truck. I would be interested in things others carry, which might give me ideas on things I should have also.
This is most of the things I carry.
a heavy duty lug wrench
a 2x6 with holes in it to support one end of lug wrench so you can stand on it and break tight lugs
2x6 blocks to put under jack
assorted tools, screw drivers, pliers, a few wrenches, etc
wire ties
heavy duty jumper cables
a small roll of stiff wire
a coat hanger
a slim jim
jb weld epoxy
assorted ropes and cord
a pair of gloves
a small bundle of rags
a piece of plastic to lay on; on the ground
a quart of transmission fluid

sprintmod1 06-24-2004, 09:55 AM cordless impact wrench to change flats and put trailer stabilizers up and down (spare battery); torque wrench to tighten custom wheels; big breaker bar; assorted screw drivers; metric wrenches; sae wrenches; spare fuel filters; jumper cables; bungee cords; heavy duty ratchet tie down straps; pliers; wire cutters; wire splicer; spare 4 & 7 pin male trailer wire harnesses; paper towels; duster (gotta make sure she stays clean); gallon oil; Primrose 405; spare hitch pins; assorted fuses; multimeter; spare tail & marker light bulbs; tow straps (2-so I can pull the F##d & D#dge out at same time); strap wrench; Coleman camp chairs for the impromptu tail gate party; mechanic gloves; wire ties; bottle jack (12t); small medical kit; blanket; food (hard candy & crackers); pocket knife; probably some other stuff in tool box that I forgot about.
ratlover 06-24-2004, 11:26 AM I actually prefer electrical tape in alot of instances over ducttape.
Some clevises are nice. dont but tow straps with hooks on the end, JMO get chains or straps with the loop ends. Also never wrap anything around a trailer ball and use that to pull someone out. A hitch with the ball remove and a clevis through the hole makes a good recovery point.
I cary spare plow parts, assorted tools, flashlight, extra coat, electrical tape, filters, extra atf, oil, tie wraps, electrical wire. A fire extingisher and some sorta warning device like a blinky light, flares(although they dont last long) or triangles or a few cones is a good idea. Glow sticks can be handy too.

I would never get that. I don't need any thing where someone can track you or use it to see you modded or failing emissions then sent you ticket.
GMC2500HD 06-24-2004, 09:12 PM From what I was told they can only monitor codes when the are tripped in the truck. I know they can do more but would not think they would stoop to that level. I could be wrong.
Burner 06-25-2004, 01:56 AM I carry hollow and FMJ's in my Baby Desert Eagle. It's nice to shoot and ask questions later. Plus, if you don't like the answers...shoot again.http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Wink.gif BTW, if you can't hit the target clean @ 100ft, don't get FMJ ammo.

Now THAT'S my kind of emergency kit, although I prefer a Sig P226 or Beretta 92FS with a really nice trigger job http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Wink.gif.

duramaxdiesel 06-27-2004, 11:10 PM You know, here in Canada we can't carry guns around with us. If we could I think that I'd be in jail right about now. If some a$$hole ever hit my truck I'd pop his ass full of leadhttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Evil Smile.gif Nickhttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Embarrased.gif
MGM-2 06-28-2004, 06:34 PM You just answered the question, Why cant we carry guns!http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Disapprove.gif
Deadeye 07-06-2004, 05:16 PM In addition to normal tools,
shovel, axe, Hi Lift Jack, jack stands, chock blocks, tire deflators, air compressor, winch, pull pal, recovery kit . . . . cell phone http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Big Smile.gif
Max Owner 07-07-2004, 10:49 PM Yeah, I need a bigger truck aswell. Maybe pull a utility trailer full of stuff. Imagine what you could carry then....
LAW launcher, full complement of assorted grenades, night vision, 50 cal rifle, pink handcuffs.....
May still have room for some tools, too. http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Disapprove.gif Edited by: Max Owner
Silveradogs 07-07-2004, 11:12 PM Wilson Protector 45 ACP, Spare Mag, Subsonics...
Max Owner 07-08-2004, 04:00 PM I think we have hi jacked AG4GT's thread.
I have been thinking about putting together a proper set of tools for the truck/trailer. My thoughts would be.....
set of standard/metric sockets (1/4, 3/8, 1/2)
standard/metric wrenches (1/4 inch up)
channel lock plyers
vise grips
rubber mallet
assorted screwdrivers
hammer
waterless hand soap
number for escort service
spare fuel filter
You can try to be as prepared as possible, but you can't prepare for every contingency. Plus storage will be a factor. CAA / AAA membership....
JRKRACE 07-08-2004, 04:10 PM Hmmm... My Sig 226 fits nicely under the cup holder tray on the console. The 12 ga. is a little tougher...I keep that next to my wife's hairdryer.....
Deadeye 07-08-2004, 06:03 PM I think we have hi jacked AG4GT's thread.

I agree . . . what you need is dependant on what you are doing, where you are going, and for how long. Also time of year and weather. Winter in rural Kanada or Alaska is a lot different than summer in Houston. http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Approve.gif
Silveradogs 07-08-2004, 08:11 PM My Truck 12 Gauge is a Mossberg Pump with a 10 inch barrel and pistol grip. It's an AOW, Federally papered, and will fit just about anywhere....http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Evil Smile.gif

ash tray?
I thought 18 1/4" was the minimum legal length.
Max Owner 07-09-2004, 12:13 PM Probally a "Grandfather" claus. Would be nice.
Silveradogs 07-09-2004, 01:58 PM Not the ash tray, but between the seat and console, no prob. Just the pistol grip sticks out, and it comes out nice & smooth!http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Evil Smile.gif When I drive home from one of my Gun Shows, with the gate receipts, it's very comforting to have with me.http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Approve.gifhttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Hug.gif
18 inches is the standard legal length. As I said in my post, it's a Federally Papered Any Other Weapon, carries a Tax Stamp just like an MG, but it's only $5.00 as opposed to $200.00. It puts out one hell of a pattern when loaded with High Brass #4 shot. 27 pellets per round. http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/HiHi.gif
It started as a pistol grip Mossberg defender, which means that it falls under the AOW class as opposed to a Short Barreled Rifle/Shotgun which carries the heftier $200.00 tax stamp.
Max Owner 07-09-2004, 03:25 PM 00 buck. Don't fool around. Slugs will get their attention too.
P.S. we still hi jacked AG4GT's post.http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Confused.gif
Deadeye 07-09-2004, 03:48 PM Silveradogs;
you should take it to a combat/defense match and get some practice with it. you will be suprised and how different it will perform compared to what you would expect if you have not used it much. how many rds in the mag?
Silveradogs 07-09-2004, 04:35 PM Used it plenty! Even shot steel targets with it! BOOOM - TANG! http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Big Smile.gifhttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Big Smile.gifWas reccomended the #4's by Entry Guy on Local Swat, either that or tactical buck. 3 in tube, 1 in chamber, times 27 pellets per shell, it will put a lot of stuff downrange, really quickly. Have a strap on fore end (Slide) to help hold on target, Pachmyr Grip, when it's slung it fits under coat nicely. Practice with it at least once every 6 to 8 weeks, along with the Wilson Protector. If you carry tools, you should be competent in their uses.
El Hefe 07-10-2004, 12:47 AM I carry a hammer (good for Angry Drivers http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/HiHi.gif ), a Phillips and Standard screwdriver, vice grips, and a rope to haul my buddy's mustang outta the Nebraskan snow http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Clap.gif http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/HiHi.gif

So what do you do, have your guns delivered when you go hunting?
I could carry all the items mentioned and still not have the correct tool. My copilot's name is Murphy.http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Wink.gif
terel 07-12-2004, 10:49 AM I live in Cali. No loaded guns allowed in cars here, either. When I go hunting or to the range, I have to carry the ammo separately from the gun. In a car, this means ammo in glove box or front seat, gun in a case in the trunk. In a truck, I'm not sure how you technically do this. I just try to make sure that if I get pulled over, I can easily demonstrate that I was not intending that the gun is not loaded, and that I'm not intending to be able to get to the gun & ammo in a hurry. Guns are almost always in a case in the back of my crew cab, ammo and stuff stored separately in a backpack, etc.
Anyone know what the penalty is in CA for packing a loaded weapon in the truck and getting caught? There have been times where I wish I could legally carry a loaded weapon (cross country trips, etc.).
~Terel
GMC2500HD 07-12-2004, 11:02 AM Usually carrying a loaded firearm when it is listed illegal is a small misdeamenor. Usually a small fine and a slap on the wrist. You will lose your weapon to impound for some time as well. Fine is anywhere from $250-10K. So be careful.
Max Owner 07-12-2004, 11:56 AM You would have to get some paperwork/certificate for each state you inteneded to travel through, to carry a concealed firearm (I do believe)
