: thermostat crossover housing
mad_matt 10-05-2006, 06:48 PM My truck was running a little warm so I flushed the cooling system and installed a new thermostat. Only prob was that the thermostat bolts were stripped and the crossover housing cracked where the bolts thread in. Ive got it working by using thinner, longer bolts with nuts but think I should get a new crossover housing. Does anyone have a used one or know where to get one cheap? thanks, matt
If your sure you are satisfied with the single thermostat setup i do have one, have no idea what its worth. e-mail me at midmich1047@sbcglobal.net. Ialso have no idea if this is ok to do here. If not please advise. THANKS.
qwomack 10-05-2006, 09:11 PM Might be able to JB Weld it and then use Heli-Coils.
94blazer6.5 10-05-2006, 09:28 PM check the junk yards maybe, but if you got it working... maybe you can leave it (keep a close eye on just in case) and save up for the 97' stlye cooling upgrade.

I replaced mine with a new one a few months ago. I know it's right and have no worries if I take a load many states away.
SnowDrift 10-06-2006, 01:03 PM Incidentally, if I was you, I'd look into Heath's balance flow system at this point. You're already going to be torn down and with the cost of a new crossover, you could put that money toward his system and have something superior to what you already have. (it includes a new crossover)
wagonwheeler 10-06-2006, 03:09 PM I thought the Heath required a core on the crossover.

Im checking out my options on the replacement. And while looking at this problem I found another problem. What is this broken sensor for? It will need swapped out with a new crossover. yay

Tracy 10-06-2006, 09:01 PM The housing broke on me the same place. I'd like to upgrade to the HO pump and dual t states, I'd also like to know were to get a inexspensive dual tstat cross over the dealer wants approx 180$US for one.
qwomack 10-06-2006, 09:06 PM That is the ECT sensor that provides the ECM or the temp gauge with the reference signal. Are you getting any codes? If the answer is yes, you could see a significant improvement in MPGs by replacing it.
4doorTAHOE6.5TD 10-07-2006, 02:26 AM This is your chance to do it right!!! Get the 96 1/2 & later Rebuilt water pump , fan clutch ,Duramax shaved fan blade. & all of the associated crossover parts . You will never be sorry. Much more important overall than the Balance Flow @ $529.00.IMO

Auto Parts Giant dot com has one for a little less. $83 for the main housing and $37 for each top piece. Rock Auto dot com has them as well.
I have been keeping my eyes out for junkyard ones since this seems to be the most expensive part of the cooling upgrade.
roebling 10-08-2006, 04:33 PM I orderred the '97 cooling upgrade components individually from RockAuto three weeks ago. Two weeks ago they said Airtex water outlet (thermostat cover) was backordered indefinitely and did I want Delco's. Last week they called and said Delco also had no water outlets and no schedule for getting any. If you're thinking about upgrading (and you should,) better buy from someone that actually stocks the parts they sell. Better call Kennedy before he runs out.

Those might be China parts. Be careful.

mad_matt 10-10-2006, 12:32 PM wow thanks for the info/advice. I think Im going to have to take the cheap route with this. I have too many projects rolling at once, and I dont have anything to tow bec my jeep is broke right now. I think Ill be ok with a replacement for now but Ill keep my eyes out for the upgrade in the future.
By the way, I flushed the system with a 10 min flush from zerex and I got over one cup full of scale out of my radiator. Damn! That was by removing the radiator and hosing it out after the flush. Thanks again for all the help, matt
