: Hypertech w/ an LB7
ccreaso1 10-05-2006, 04:31 PM I'm not sure if this is the right place for this so I'll appologize ahead of time if it isn't. Anyway, I recently ran across a used hypertech power programmer III for an LB7 and was wondering if anyone out there had any experience with this programmer? How does it compare to others? Is it worth $150. Does it allow for any fuel economy improvements? Any information you can share would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
The Neens 10-05-2006, 04:39 PM I would pay $150 for it...I ran one on my '02 for a few years and never had any trouble...Had some decent power...Mileage stayed about the same for me, others may have different results...
TXWHTHD 10-05-2006, 05:30 PM I've been running my for a couple of years, no problems. Be sure to let the tranny adjust to it, before you get on the gas pedal.
bfastcars 10-05-2006, 07:53 PM I just purchased a new Hyper Tech unit for $345.00 this july.
I also replaced my stock exhaust with a 4" SS .
I attain 23-25 mpg at 75mph ans 15.5 to 17 around town.
In the #3 tune the truck scoots!!!:ro)
I would buy that unit in a heart beat .

04MAXLLY 10-06-2006, 10:36 AM I had the Hypertech and really liked it, I also bought it used and it helped gas mileage about 2mpg. $150 is a steal for a good all around program. later Clint
div4gold 10-06-2006, 12:00 PM There are 2 models of it for the LB7, the earlier one has 3 power options and lets you adjust for different tire sizes. The later model does the same but also reads codes.
G-MAC 10-08-2006, 03:13 AM +1 I got the Hypertech and haven't had any problems. Set it at #3 and enjoy the ride.
yanks8 10-08-2006, 03:24 PM I have had mine for three years with no problem at all. Some of the other programmers may give you more power, but you should'nt have to worry about your truck with hypertech. Wish I could have found one for $150.00.
redfish 10-09-2006, 04:57 PM 150 bucks, you can't go wrong. I pd 275.00 for mine, It's a good product, I pull and race all on stage III. No issues yet.
04MAXLLY 10-11-2006, 01:20 PM I have one forsale also for $200 if anybody needs one for 2001-2005 Duramax trucks. LMK Later Clint

How do you tell them apart?
The Neens 10-11-2006, 02:24 PM How do you tell them apart?
I believe #30021 is the early model, #30029 is for 01-05
BattleMax 10-12-2006, 05:28 PM The hypertech is the best for towing hands down! It was allot better then my edge for towing. I'm almost thinking of buying another one just to tow with.
Newtorving 10-13-2006, 09:03 PM Battle, what did you like about the Hypertech??
I have one but only to change tire size. I currently use the Edge EZ and really like it. According to the graphs with each box, the edge makes more torque which I would think you would want while towing.

It's been a while and I can't remember the numbers but you could check it out on hypertech.com
dmax35 10-13-2006, 10:16 PM I have a Hypertech stacked with a TS Performance module and love it. Great towing power and not one problem.
JoshDmax 10-14-2006, 01:37 PM I'm running mine on stage 1, love it.
chevy_9465 10-14-2006, 01:43 PM For 150 I wouldnt pass it up.
I vote for the Dr performance Nitro flash #1002. Nobody seem to know about this brand but this programmer as the same power than the Hypertech but give way better mpg and lower egt in the same level of power and condition of use so... And yes it read and erease trouble code, have the speedo recalibration for different tire size, remove top speed limiter and fit both lb7 and lly dmax.

You might want to bump it up to level 2 or 3 you'll love it even more, looking at dyno charts level one is worse than stock.

Remember Dynos measure rear wheel horsepower, not at the crank, so numbers will look lower than what you see in the brochures.

I live in quebec close to montreal so i dont know where is the closest seller near you. I will give you the link of the company and mabe a simple way to get one is on ebay . Search for (Duramax programmer). I know there is always 1 or 2 to sell but dont remember the price exactly.

I used to tow with the hypertech on stage 3 with no egt problems and lots of power. MY edge/ attitude on tow level runs higher egts and is slower. The edge has more lowend torque, say 1500 rpms or so but above 2,000 rpms the hypertec has allot more power and I could shift higher up also, up to 3500rpms. Without as much lowend torque its easier on the tranny and things. Next time time you go to tow program that hypertec and see what you think.
Newtorving 10-16-2006, 07:14 AM Battle, I'll do that.
I have got a hunting trip coming in a couple of weeks to New Mexico. Pulling the trailer in sig along with gear and food for 7 days with 6 guys. We are going to weigh our rigs on the way out. Did you notice any difference in mileage towing with the different brands?

The edge/attitude gives my truck absolutly no increase in gas mileage. I get the best running on level 0. The hypertec gave my truck an extra 1 or maybe 2 but I really had to be easy on the throttle.
