I noticed that my fuel gauge was not reading properly last week so I took it to my dealer and 45 mins before I got there, a new TSB was issued regarding this. They made the repairs today and all is well again.

Condition: Vehicle runs out of fuel, gauge reads 1/4 tank left.

Procedure: Install new fuel sending unit with new module.

Part # 89060639 W Module

The tech's notes on the RO were: "Found incorrect resistance from fuel sensor, ordered part per bulletin 04-08-49-019. Replaced fuel sending unit and retested".

I hope this helps anyone with this issue, it would be a major hassle if you ran out of fuel. I'm sure the forum tech's will respond and post this bulletin in the TSB section of the forum.

So do you need to demonstrate that you've run out of fuel with fuel registering on the gauge for them to replace the sending unit?

I didnt actually "run out" of fuel. I just pay attention to my gauges and noticed that it was taking a long time to empty that tank (way more than normal). It was also operating irratically, one time said full, then 10 mins later read 1/2 then 10 mins later read 7/8. It was obviously not working properly. That was all the dealer really needed to know to order the new part.

Last Feb. I was pulling my 36' 5th wheel through Nevada. My wife had just determined our next fuel stop in the Next Exit book. We always get fuel around a 1/4 tank. One mile from our exit truck quits. Guage shows exactly 1/4 tank. Cost us $107.00 to get 5 gallons of fuel delivered. Guage has not malfunctioned since. We now go by mileage, not the gauge.

I got hit a couple weeks ago. Dealer replaced fuel sensor under warranty. The funny thing is I noticed that the truck took more fuel at fill up than the gauge indicated. Fortunately my truck ran out of fuel in my driveway as I was leaving for work in the morning.http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Cry.gif

I mentioned this to my Tech, that my Low Fuel light would come on, but I still had 7-8 gallons left ( maybe more ? ), the next day the l.f. light went off, I drove another 75 miles, low fuel light came back on, I went to fuel up after 425 miles on 1 tank, it only took 23.5 gallons.....

The tech said no codes from the fuel tank, checked fuel pressure, no restrictions, but like someone said above, we need to run out-of fuel to show that somethings wrong.....http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Confused.gif

I bought a mixed case of FPPF Total Power, & Cetane Boost from Kennedy, mixed 1 of each bottles into a 1 gallon jug, I put 8 oz per tank, and there is deffinetly a big difference, runs better, fuel economy http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Big Smile.gif......Nicly put Rcher!!

Rcher, I had this same thing happen with may 8.1 gasser cab & chassis. The dealer had same indicators as you did, but my was out of warranty. Very expensive repair.

At 1/4 tank I have exactly 2.4 gallons of fuel left. My guage is not correct.
