GREASE FIRE

it's not that often that i will shut my van down for a short period of time and start it up again, but this has not happened before. It was running fine all day, a lot of driving and some idling as well, then i shut it down when i got home and about 1 - 2 hours later, the engine temp was still about 150 F, i was going to move it a little and it would not start. The glow plugs did not cycle, i guess the engine was too hot for that, but then i would think it would start then. There was some white smoke coming out the tail pipe. I didn't want to run the batteries down so did not crank too long. I will wait till later tonight and see what it does. This can't be normal otherwise it would happen to people all the time. Does anyone have any ideas as to what's wrong? It started just fine this morning...
thanks,
Paul

Hi
Sing of a IP rebuild time comming.
Personnaly i just add automatic trans oil 1 cup for 5gal of fuel it will help if the IP is not too damaged
After just keep add 1 cup for 10gal of fuel for maintenance and it could be ok for months.

Actually, I think he just installed a new IP...
The glow plug inhibit switch could be malfunctioning (if the truck still has one). The truck could actually be colder than the 150 degrees the temp gauge indicates... Try shorting across the big terminals on the glow plug relay with a screwdriver for 7 or 8 seconds and immediately cranking the truck... It should start if there is a glow plug system issue.

i had a problem where the fuel lift pump was failing, and my IP was picking up the slack. super hard to start, i replaced the lift pump and had really good luck. if i were you i would check the lift pump. they are cheap and relly easy to put in.

my vote is for the glow plug inhibit switch first then the lift pump second.
