: 315/75/16 and t bars cranked will it work?
Turbobruce 10-04-2006, 07:01 PM I just got a great deal on some wheels and tires but I'm at stock height except for cranking the t bars way up to level the truck. Am I dreaming to think these tires will fit on my truck even if I do some trimming? I don't mind trimming as long as it is not too serious. I have searched and found only two people that claim they did it with no problems. Is there anyboby else out there with 315\75\16 on an 8 inch rim without a lift?
cjsho 10-04-2006, 07:35 PM Some will say that it will, but I wouldn't recommend it.

I don't think it will work, but I would sure like to here from the guys that are running this setup.
Swampfox 10-04-2006, 08:20 PM I have 315/70/17's on 17x8.5 H2 wheels with no lift, just t-bar crank and a little trimming on the valance. I also put longer shocks on to let the suspension droop back down after I cranked the bars up.

How do you like your setup?
Swampfox 10-04-2006, 08:26 PM I like it a lot. It seems like its just right, not to big or not to small. I can still run down the interstate comfortably and still get right at 20-21 mpg. I plan on eventually going to 37's but I'm satisfied for now. Check out my garage for some pics.
Cheyenne19 10-04-2006, 08:39 PM There's some pretty serious trimming involved. Like taking a sawzall to your truck, but I didn't mind.

SAWZALL!!!!
Maybe I will reconsider. Where did you have to use the sawzall?
Swampfox 10-04-2006, 09:34 PM All I had to trim is the front valence.
Turbobruce 10-04-2006, 09:36 PM Your tires are just a little smaller than the ones I have.
kartdude17 10-04-2006, 09:51 PM I have 315/75/16 toyo a/t on stock rims with the t-bars cranked. I also have longer shocks and that helped alot with the ride. I didnt have to trim that much, basically some of the wheel liner and pull the e-brake cable back. How wide are the rims that the tires are on? The wider the rim the more rubbing your gonna have I think.

They are 8 inch rims.

Yes it SHOULD fit. BF Goodrich TA's 315/75/16 are 12.2" on a 8.5" rim and 34.6" height. 315/70/17 (stock hummer) are 12.0" on 8.5" rim and 34.5". There are quite a few of us running the 17" H2 factory rim and tire combo on our trucks with no problems. You will definately need to do some trimming on your front spoiler and inner fender well. Also tie back your e-brake line closer to the frame. :grd:
tmg115 10-05-2006, 04:29 AM it will work just fine. but the ride will suck
APeggs 10-05-2006, 07:30 AM All I had to trim is the front valence.
Do you feel it's necessary (with your current setup) to switch out your upper a-arms with the Cognito kit? How's your ride now with your current setup and what shocks did you go with?
Thanks
Cheyenne19 10-05-2006, 09:39 AM SAWZALL!!!!

I did nar's fender mod. I pulled back the liner and cut the pinch welds in order to move it back towards the cab. You might could get them to fit without it, it just depends on what you will tolerate as far as rubbing goes.
01Duramax6spd 10-05-2006, 09:48 AM My 285's with 8" rims rub like crap  ,ever with the t-bars cranked way up. Maybe I need to go back to stock rims, but I'm not likeing it at all. I have trimmed quite a bit too, including the actual fender  .

I don't think its necessary for the new UCA's but it wouldn't hurt to have them. I think that they would improve the ride just a little bit and take some stress off some of the parts, I plan on upgrading to the 7"-9" Cognito sometime soon and will be buying the UCA's then but for now I am satisfied with it. After I put the longer shocks on it improved the ride a WHOLE lot. I went with some Rancho RS5000 shocks. Hope this helps. If you have any more questions I'll try my best to answer them.
myojunk 10-05-2006, 05:52 PM i have 305-70-16 on 16x10 wheels and they rub pretty bad when im turned to full lock. i trimmed the front air dam like everyone else has but i havent done anything with the e-brake cable.
i also have the "green keys" or "porkchops" installed. they are cranked up high enough to supply me with a ride that is equal to SH!T...
i believe the wheel backspacing is the key element when trying to fit a larger tire without rubbing.
Z71offroader 10-05-2006, 05:55 PM i am also considering running 35s with just a leveling kit and i think it can be done but what will determine the rubbing is going to be the width and backspacing of the wheel. anyone know the backspacing of a stock h2 wheel? the width is 8.5" correct?
Cheyenne19 10-05-2006, 07:27 PM I believe the bs on H2's are 5.5, bs is key to getting 35's on.
Duramaxdude03 10-05-2006, 07:37 PM Hey swamp did they tell you what those shocks would fit for the extra length when you lifted up. I went to a parts store and they had no CLUE when I asked them about tweaking the bars maybe you can help me.
thanks donn
Swampfox 10-05-2006, 08:00 PM I got mine at 4wheelParts and when I ordered them I told them I wanted the RS5000's for the 4" lift kit that they sell. A buddy of mine got some from them also for a 2" lift and ended up taking them back because they were too short. We both have 4" lift shocks on our dmax's with no problems. I would highly NOT recommend 4wheel parts for any kind of part, they suck big time but I won't get into that. When I get back home I can get the part #'s if you are still needing them.
atver300 10-05-2006, 09:33 PM yeah definatley like the rancho 4" lift shocks though i still cant convince 4 wheel parts that im gettin 2 1/2" out of my factory keys they argued that 1 1/2" is all that you can get i tried to explain this aint a z71 its a real truck they sold me ''2inch'' lift shocks that were barely longer than the stockers and refused to believe my stock shocks were completly maxed out all the time screw 4wheel parts though i sure do like my free 30' 2'' strap
Turbobruce 10-06-2006, 12:05 AM Well I tried putting on one wheel tonight and It will not work unless I use a sawzall. I don't mind cutting the front valence but I don't feel comfortable cutting a piece off the back of the fenderwell. I guess I will have to wait for a little bit. Looks like I will be saving for a 4 inch lift. I wonder if the cognito leveling kit would make it work? After all, I'm up only two inches from cranking the t bars.
dieseltrucker 10-06-2006, 01:24 PM my .02 running 315's on stock rims trimmed front bumper 25000+ miles rides fine...

Your stock rims are the reason you have no major rubbing issues. Your rims are only 6.5 inches wide. The rims I have are 8inch. I'm bummed that they didn't fit.
Duramaxdude03 10-06-2006, 08:05 PM Hey turbo get a heat gun and massage the inner fender. that might be the way you can go.

The problem is that it actually hits the back corner of the fender well. I didn't want to cut but I don't think I really need to cut too much at all and it will not show being that it is under the truck. I'm just a little nervous cutting up a 40,000 truck. I wish I could see some pictures of anyone who has already done this.
_nar_ 10-07-2006, 01:00 AM Tell you what, pay for me to trade on an 07 and I'll redo the fender mod with pics this time...

MAn, what I would give for some pics right now.
_nar_ 10-07-2006, 01:16 AM Click the link in my signature, read it, then go pull the plastic liner at the back of your fenderwell up and you'll see what I am talking about... I wish I had taken pics when I did it, I've been asked about it probably 25 times.

ME too :)
I'm trying to get something more than 285's on the wifes 05 Z71 Burb (1/2 ton)
I know it's not a HD but man I've got some good room, just not too sure with the stock rims.
