Does anybody know if they are going to bump the power up? - I've heard 400hp and 640tq - sure could be a reason we are not hearing anything about the 2005's yet (except for a few cosmetic changes)

Don't they have enough now? Mine has more than I will ever use already!

yea I heard that too. It doesn't really matter though. I'll just put chip and exhaust on mine and be back in the ball game. the only diff is the new ones will be covered under warranty when mine wouldn't. What have you heard for cosmetic changes? What do they plan on changing?

400/640 sounds too high for GM's mainstream diesel pickup. I could maybe see an option to order a performance package if they dropped weight load specs.

Yeah

400 seems to be a BIG number for a HD truck. I could see the general making a "halo" truck. A viper truck killer....soemthing to completely embarass the lightning guys or the mustang owners.....probably more of a show peice than production. However, they have an entire fleet of diesel drinking demons (us) out here proving that the motor will take it all day long and the ally can hold with a little tweaking. Slap that in a SS bodied truck with serious all wheel drive and some sticky rubber and you got a rocket sled that could really hual some a$$!http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Evil Smile.gif

But 400 in a working truck seems a little out there.....don't get me wrong.....it's cool........I have one...I know....but I don't see GM doing that for production

Considering the LLY has only shipped for six months at the current numbers I would have a hard time swallowing the new numbers. Maybe a couple years down the road but not this soon after the change.

I highly doubt will see GM bump the hp/tq up that high. Why set the standards that high, we all know they can make more hp that what they roll off the lot but thats all figured into their plans. On the other hand the new Allison transmissions are suppose to handle alot more hp/tq so it's a possibility we'll see more hp/tq for '05...after all Ford is introducing their new Superduty.

I wouldn't be surprised to see some increases, but not that high. I wouldn't be shocked too greatly to see 350/620 to edge the competition, but as we have seen before, once the cat is out of the bag, others will announce their numbers, which will undoubtedly be higher. . . we all benefit. More ponies, more torque for all my friends.

There have been 1 or 2 other threads about the vocational trannies.

so which of these trannys will we get?? and is anyone sure they will show up in the 2005s??

I'd guess it will be the least expensive version that satisfies HP/TQ requirements with minimum margin to spare. The Highway Series appears to be a family of trannies that can get up to 500hp at the crank. For cost reasons, it wouldn't be the biggest and baddest version.

The highway series doesn't support PTO, so then would that leave the Rugged Duty series?

Ford has stated that the 2005 Powerstroke will have 325 and 570. Then in another article they stated that they will not announce the real numbers until the very last minute, and that both the hp and tq will be the highest on the market for all diesel pickup trucks.

I would guess that Ford will have 340 and 640. Maybe GM will hold out just a tad bit longer and one up them. (After all, Ford did that to Dodge in 2003, and Dodge did it to GM just this year with the 2004.5) But either way, we will not be seeing 400 hp from a production diesel any time soon. Besides that, GM is not going to up the hp by 90 and only 50 on the tq, not when torque is really what is needed.

When we were all talking about the 04 and a half power increases. Dmaxallitech (IE:Eric) made a comment about just wait till the 2005 numbers come out, you will all be happy. And he also said something about the 2005 getting the 6 speed Allison.

I can not find these threads, so maybe I dreamed all of this.

I did dig this up, it was posted by Kool back in early November (By the way, what happened to Kool? I know that he worked at the Duramax plant here in Ohio)

" ok this is kinda my take on what there doing...GM doesnt want to go all out right now...basically our main sales are due to the quiet diesel technology, along with the duramax's awsome quality....this is just a small stepping stone, toward what GM has planned for the 06 ive heard rumors but not gonna spill..lets just say, u will crap urselfhttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Evil%20Smile.gif

but yeah, we have now hit 100% quality though hot test on both shifts, can the PSD say they did that, our quietness, and quality are what is selling us right now, the lil jump is to help boost the duramax, but this what is planned for the future, u will love "Edited by: hdmax

A 6 speed Allison would be nice, but one of those continuously varying trannies would be very nice! http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Approve.gif

Kool bought himself a nice little red Colorado Z71 and hangs out at Coloradofans.com quite regularly and calls himself KoolZ71 over there. Maybe I'll stop by tonight and ask him to pay us a visit. It sure was kool to have the plant updates...

Just heard from kool, nothing changed for the 2005 LLY, but 2006 is supposed to be the big one in the form of a new motor. I kinda like this whose go the biggest "*" game. http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Clap.gif Still gotta go with an 05 for me though, but I wish I could hold out longer... Edited by: Reineke

Sorry if that post was misleading, I thought we were discussing the LLY, so when I said no changes to the 2005, I ment for the diesel. I will edit the post...

The reality of it is no matter what there will always be something bigger and better. If I held out for "next years" truck I would never own one because they get better and better every year. As for the GM hood change I believe that is rumored to be Chevy only and we still have not seen any pictures this late in the year...kinda weird considering they are taking orders on '05s.? I was talking w/ a Chevy saleman the other day and he said there was a GM rep at the dealership earlier that day and no changes to the Chevy either. Only time will tell.

No problem Ray, It is easy to assume everyone knows what I am talking about all the time. I would consider it my fault.

As for the grille, the information was taken from GM Dealerworld, so I am about 99% sure it is a fact. I believe the pictures of the new HD front end wil be released July 1st with all the rest of the MY05 info. I can't wait...Edited by: Reineke

Ok I just ordered my 05 truck and I was told nothing about the new lineup of trannys or a 6 speed ally. I would kill for a 6 speed ally but I bought my truck in the blind so I will not know the major details about the new truck for some time I guess. I will keep you posted and let me know if you hear anything.

I have seen the new 05 prototype HD Chevrolet in person. It is a little different, but It looks pretty good. I have no Idea about the GMC changes, If any.

Does the new grill look like anything on the market already, the Chevrolet Express for example?

I don't think GM is going to step up the power more than 350 ponnies period. Fuel economy and reliability are compromised when you start putting more power than a Corvette in a truck. My next truck will be the one with the most HP. GM got me to switch with the 300 Duramax and I'll switch again in 06 when I sell my 03 and move on. How convenient, 06..........maybe I'll be in another GM. I think Ford is going to step it up, I guess they have nothing left to make sales with, truly sad. I guess 400 ponnies aren't really that much, I've been running that for a year now without any problems but I don't let employees run my truck either.

The grill looks very much like the current truck. It has a bulge in the hood like the 01-02s did.
