Hi Folks,

I just read the post aboput adding VO to Diesel and run the dmax. As Diesel is not that expensive here in Germany (compared to our gas, compared to yopur prices its still higher! -:t ), my main point to add some oil is the quietness and the durability of the engine. One day, an old mechanic told me that he adds usual, fully synthetic engine oil (the one he also uses as oil in the respective engine) to his diesel, approx. 1 liter per full tank, to smoothen the ride. He said this is very good for the lubrication of the high pressure pump (cp3?) and the injectors. What do you think? Is that right or again an opinion from someone who has no clue that common rail diesel is not the same as that old diesels...

best

Mike

Around here it was fairly common to do it a while back--in the 1960-1970 time frame. Caterpillar even had factory specs on how much to add. I remember using gear oil containers to carry diesel in and having the exhaust smell like gear oil! I wish I could really answer this question for the modern engines.

BIO is the best way to go for added lubricity and engine safety. No guesswork involved about whether it is safe to use in common rail or not.
