I have an 04 GMC Duramax / Allison combo with the SLE trim package. This vehicle is very well equipped but didn't come with the steering wheel controls option. I have been working with the GMC dealer in Orland CA. on getting this package installed. Got the steering wheel right but had first ordered the wrong steering wheel coil kit. I have found out the coils differ from crew cabs and extended cabs due to the air bag shut off. The service manager then ordered the coil kit for the crew cab but has now found there is an extra wire plug with no where to plug into on the BCM. My question is are there two models of the body control module for this truck cab configuration. My service manager is really going the extra mile for me on this one on his own time but is having problems getting answers. Should I abort this project or is there a ray of hope to get this system operational.
Thanks in advance

I ran into a brick wall when I wanted to add the steering wheel controls. The trucks are built at GM with the steering wheel controls programmed into the body controllers. From my experience (after going all the way to the top in GM) GM did not R&D the interface and knows nothing about it other than replacing defective components that allow the steering wheel controls to function. GM is simply adding the option to the truck during the inital build. In "short" I determined it cannot be performed after several months of research.

A friend tried to have the extendable mirrors added to his truck and the dealer couldn't do it because of the BCM. They had it for two days before they figured out that it wouldn't work.

The power extendable mirrors can be done. No doubt about it. I also think that the steering wheel controls could be done if someone knew what they were doing.

Extendable mirrors can be done it is a simple reprogram that your dealer can do. I went the other way, I got rid of the extendable for the smaller ones.
Icho, were are you located? I to deal with Shaun in orland Ca. I will be calling him tomorrow with my major problem on my truck, the local Chico dealer keeps putting me off and giving me dumb ground wire excusses. I know he will do his best for me.. Jason

I agree with Max Power, that the steering wheel switches could be done, however no one knows how they interface or function on the bus line. Hopefully someone will figure it out as I do not have a turck with the switches to "reverse engineer" it.

Check out these links on how to get your steering wheel controls working. They are long, but near the end of the threads people have managed to add the controls.

The power mirrors are doable because I have them.
And, I did it myself.

Nice to see I got some activity on this question. First Jason, I am from Orland also and Have dealt with Courtesy Motors in Chico. Shaun is by far the best service manager to deal with. He is kept very busy. I have read and posted on the GM-Trucks.com site and a few people have been successful on adding the steering wheel controls and having them activated. Also have read where people are tapping into the wires from the bcm and adding toggle switches to activate the driver info center rather than buy the steering wheel to control the functions. Don't think I want to go that direction. There was a guy I believed called SS 275 and he has a manual and says he can get any option he wants to add working. He has a X-Cab and I have a Crew Cab and I know there are differences. Maybe I will try and write him again on this matter. I was just hoping maybe one of the GM Techs would have an angle on this subject.
