: Hard shifts from 3rd to 4th

I'm not freaking out about this yet, just curious as to if there might be a problem. A couple days ago I got a hard shift from 3rd to 4th, I mean HARD. Never happened before, I thought maybe it was just one of those occasional missed shifts I have read about. I glanced at the attitude - I wasn't fully warmed up yet, so I thought maybe it was shifting for power that wasn't there. Today it happened again, twice. Once at normal daily driving throttle input, once under hard acceleration. These were both with the engine fully warmed up. I checked the settings on my Attitude, which were, and are always at defuel all locked shifts, and power level 3/3. I just had tranny fluid and spin-on changed about 5,000 miles ago, no problems until now. All analog gauges look good (tranny temp, etc.) This happened between gears 3/4 all three times. I don't drive it too hard usually, just an occasional romp. I've got maybe 6,000 miles with the J/A.

Is this semi-normal, or could it be the start of a problem?

As usual, thanks for any input.

My tranny has done so many odd shifts I quit worrying about it since my power adders. I keep the tranny confused. http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Ermm.gif

If I remove the Quad box it will revert back to a near normal shifting tranny even with the Attitude. But then If I remove the Quad ........

I have experienced very hard shifts at partial throttle. You think something is sure to break.

I use to have a lockup 7 disc convertor in my turbo buick that when it locked up (even under part throttle) it felt like a hammer hitting an anvil.

See if you can locate a tech II and reset the tap cells in that shift .... You might if you have a decent repor with your dealer get them to do it explaining your having a bumpy shift ....

It just gets confused ....

Scout's honor, never slipped it. I get a little too scared to run it full out for any length of time with stock tranny and big tires. I have thought a few times about heading down your way - to get it so I don't have to worry about slippin' no more http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Big Smile.gif. I already blew my wad on the truck and mods, don't have nothing left now for what I shoulda done in the beginning.http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Cry.gif Live and learn they say.

I think for now I'll try Mackin's suggestion and call on the Dmax gods down at the dealer for some help. I gotta tell you though, they ain't impressed me so far with their lack of Dmax knowledge - I am surprised by that, as there are a bunch of diesels running around this town. I'm sure they'll catch up eventually.

On edit: is a Tech II standard equipment in a GMC service shop, or are they few and far between?Edited by: HD4fun

I am very friendly with the 2 biggest trans shops in Reno. A1 and Levrett. I will call them and see if they can set those taps for you.

Hey guys, thanks for all the replies.

Mike L.,

Appreciate the help. Do these guys have a Tech II, then? I went to LEVCO transmission shop to get the filters/fluid changed. They seemed pretty good to me, but don't have a Tech II. By the way, it's pretty scary how far-reaching you are. http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Big Smile.gif Seem to know everyone everywhere. http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Cool.gif
