: Filter Question
TexasZX225 10-01-2006, 10:26 AM Doing some shopping from some of the supporing vendors.
Fleet filter has the fuel filters for 19.56. Merchant Automotive sells AC Delco for $35 but says they are the new dual pleat version. I wanted to stay with the OEM filters. I have heard good things on the wix. Want some other opinions. Is the extra $15 for the AC Delco worth it or are you just paying for the name.
Blue Max 10-02-2006, 09:11 AM The 20 dollar ones are probably the old style. I don't know that for sure though.
Idle_Chatter 10-02-2006, 09:15 AM All Duramax fuel filters are manufactured by Racor. They are branded by others, but come from a single source. There are three "generations" of the fuel filter. 1) the original single pleat, 2) the second generation double pleat and 3) the "long can" double pleat. I'd wager the Fleets are first generation single pleats at that price.
FleetFilter 10-02-2006, 10:22 AM All of our 33910 filters are the new dual pleat design. We just have a better price.
Thanks
Bryan
TexasZX225 10-02-2006, 11:05 PM Thanks Bryan. Caught that in another string. Placed my order yesterday. Very good pricing.
On the Allison filters you sell, do they have the issue with the magnet covering a couple of the holes?

I have an old allison brand filter on the work bench, and just received my order from Bryan for a huge box of filters including external tranny filters (Napa Gold). I will take my spare magnet from Eric, and check both tomorrow!
FleetFilter 10-03-2006, 10:28 AM I have check it and it covers most of the holes. I took it to my local GM dealer and talked to the tranny tech, and he told me that there is not that much pressure on the filter and there should not be a problem with the fluid going through the holes. It looks like they are blocked, but the holes are actually at an angle I guess you can say. He said that he would use them. I have sold thousands and nobody that I have sold them to have complained.

FleetFilter 10-03-2006, 02:33 PM I am not really sure. I know our filters exceeds OEM specs.

dcraig4570 10-03-2006, 04:27 PM I got my last filters at the Cummins house near by.. (Fleetguard)
Paid
8.95 for trans spin on
4.87 for oil

txdutt 10-03-2006, 07:45 PM I bought my last tranny filters from Fleetfilters-ended up paying $22 for 2 filters with sales tax & shipping, they were the Napa brand. No issues at all, allison is perfectly happy with them...

Yeah, you're paying for the name--just go to Fleetfilter and buy a bunch of everything--can't go wrong. And just to confirm on the Wix Ally filter,I was also concerned about the magnet covering the holes.First,if I remember right,Wix has 2 more holes than AC-Delco,they are sloped so the magnet only appears to be blocking--I poured some ATF slowly on top of the magnet--It did go into the holes.
coachhim 10-29-2006, 11:43 AM Only thing that really scares me is that fleet filter sales that fuel filter for 1/2 the price of O'Reilly's, the WIX brand I mean. I just dont understand how it can be $20 cheaper. What exactly does Fleet Filter sell, the WIX or Napa Gold

In fuel filters for our D-max's,it's Napa Gold, but it's one and the same,Napa uses Wix filters,it comes in a Napa box.O'Reillys is a store I take it? They have much more overhead than Bryan, that's why--just do it,I've already bought over $300 from Bryan inthe last 6 months.:grd:
fastjohnny 10-29-2006, 08:19 PM my last order was like 500 bucks, very satisfied.
FleetFilter 10-30-2006, 11:52 AM Wix makes NAPA Gold filters in there factory. Napa is WIX's biggest customer. We just sell them at fleet prices. I does seem to good to be true, but it is true.
thanks All
