Hi, I am new here. I have a question, it is how hard is it to get 700-800hp out of a stock 2005 duramax engine. I have heard about doing a good tune where you adjust the internals where you allow as much air in to the engine keeping it up as long as possible and keeping the fuel inside the engine as long as possible keeping it closed as long as possible without throwing the timing off. Not sure what it is really. I have heard you can dump as much fuel into the engine as well called power stacking or something? I need some information and thought this would be a good place to get that information.
Thanks

Don't know what all the scientific definitions are but there is alot that has to be put in to making 700 - 800 RWHP out of a Duramax engine. Yes you can pour the fuel to it, but it has to be all at the right times to be used correctly or it is just wasted. EFI live can program tunes in that range but you also have to consider turbo upgrades, injector pump upgrades, lift pumps, tranny, and a host of other things. Probably in the range of $ 12,000- $15000. To me that is half the fun of a diesel truck is to try to find the power. Please read through this forum because there is alot of great write ups and members are really starting to wind up their Duramaxes.

I hope your not expecting to just be able to go out and bolt on alot of upgrades to get the power your looking for. If thats what your thinking good look on not blowing the engine, trans, and any other week links the drive train might have. What is your goal for the truck? Is it just to have the power to have fun and blow away the inports (whick is really fun in a 7000 lbs truck) or are you going to go all out and want to goto the sled pulls and then what are you looking on spending. You'd be surprised in what an intake, exhaust, and tuner will do for you it feels like you have alot more horsepower than you think because of all that torque. :ro)

My goal is to beat imports/musclecars and other diesel trucks. I am not really into the pulling contests but I like to watch them though.

If thats the case then the average bolt on will do you wonders. An intake, exhaust and programmer will do you great and if you shop around you can get all fairly inexpensive (if we can say that) Then you'll have lots of fun with your truck. then if you want more you can go with propane, nitrius, water injection, the sky and your wallet is the limit.
