I don't think you should have too, but your choice with regards to hills and actual weight.. Good luck

I pull a 7x18' enclosed racing trailer that only weighs < 7000lbs loaded and I use tow haul mode ....... it changes the shift points AND engine brakes when slowing down.:ro)
I think it's great, even though some people say you don't really have to use it unless you tow heavy.

better safe than sorry. It will still go into overdrive, if it shifts back and forth on the hills then you can manually take it out of overdrive. I always use mine when pulling.

I always used it on my 2002 it would still go into 5th gear but will new truck still go into 6th gear and if so do you new to be in 6th with load even a light load by the way thanks all for the replys great web site I love this truck I just wish the fuel milage would improve I only have 1500 miles so far but it pushes this truck to get 325 miles on a 26 gallon tank thats why I was considering not using tow haul

i run it empty and loaded i dont like watching my tranny temp run close to 200* in the city:eek: with no load on it with moderate driving habits. with t/h on i have to push it hard to get it to 175* this is all city driving BTW

The GM manual says you shouldn't need the tow-haul mode unless your GCVW is 75% percent or more of the Maximum GCVW. If it starts shifting a lot on the hills then tow-haul mode would probably be a good idea.

Six Pack,

I read that in the manual as well. After towing my light trailer (6,000) around, it just feels better to me when in tow haul mode than in regular drive mode. However, most of my towing in over the Shasta Cascade and Syskiyou mountains.

Love my new '06, but things certainly have changed since my '01,and have become complicated somewhat.Sometimes, while in D mode,I'll hit the tow/haul mode just to aid in slowing or for more power quicker whether empty or with a trailer. And in M mode,I'll sometimes use the gears to control speed such as on a very windy road or with steep hills.Years ago,the grade braking was there automatically when you needed it descending a fairly steep hill. Now,it works with your cruise control only and only when you engage tow haul mode. This is designed for either a weighted truck or with a trailer, something that GM advised you not to do just a few years ago because the cruise control could'nt maintain the set speed going downhill or uphill. It all works great though--love driving it!!!

Anytime I tow over 6k which is what I am empty I use tow/haul. Helps with braking and shift points. Works great with edge on level 2.

Decision to use tow/haul is simple. If you have to connect a hitch you should use it. It is there to help.

Use the T/H, as the manual says, if your GCW is 75% of the GCWR...that's why it's there. Pulling a 14k 5er, my truck (T/H turned on) shifts to sixth around 55 to 58 mph. Being in the T/H mode has nothing to do with overdrive. If the conditions are right, it will shift to OD.
