i was happily married too my new Dmax on friday afternoon (june 25th)... 2004 Chevy 2500HD, BLACK, crew cab, dmax/alli, ect ect ect....iv allready put more than 300 miles on it...but there is a loud ticking noise at idle( its done it every since i picked it up).... not sure where its coming from, allmost sounds like its at the rear of the engine/very front of the tranny....Is this part of break in, or a dmax thing? its goin back to the dealer in a hurry if no one else has heard of it...... other than that i think im lucky, my AC will indeed freeze you out of the truck....wait to start cuts off quickly.... so far everything is normall cept for that stupid ticking sound......Please give me some help on this one, b.c if its not a common break in thing, i wanna get it back to the dealer soon....

THanks in advance!!

My truck only ticks loudly when it's cold. When the engine temp gets to 180-190 degrees, the engine run smooth like glass with a slight whistle noise (I love that sound). I just turn the volume up on the radio for the first 3-5 miles.http://dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Clown.gif

The infamous "Duramax Tick". Some do it, some don't, but it's normal as Max said.

Exhaust stuff is a whole different thing. Try a few searches and you'll find plenty of posts about various manufacturers and the common materials you can get them made from, as well as prices. I don't think there's any question that some sort of change will help, especially if you plan on doing other performance upgrades.
