I have a 2006 Express 3500 Cargo Van with the Duramax Engine.

That fuel system uses two filters.

The owner's manual (Diesel Supplement) is not very clear on its maintenance scheduling. It seems to indicate that they should be changed every 15000 miles.

That seems like a very frequent change pattern.

I know most of you have pickup trucks. What mileage idicator does your service manual indicate for the one stage fuel filter to be changed?

What is your opinion about the 15K change frequency?

I wasn't aware that it came with 2 filters stock. I only have one. Did you buy it used and someone put a secondary filtration system on it already??
15k mi. isn't infrequent. I change mine every oil change, but I usually go to about 50% on my indicator (5k mi.+/-). You want to stay on top of the filtration and do it religiously. The injectors have a lot of pressure flowing through them and any particulates act like a sandblaster and can wear them out, and you don't want that.

The van is stock. I bought it new form the dealer in January 06.

The cargo van has two filters that are frame mounted just ahead of the fuel tank on the driver's side.

When they began putting 6.6L in the Express Van's they went with two filters.

And they are expensive! Retail is $132.00 for the AC Kit (Two Filters and gaskets). I have bargined with my local dealer for $79.00 per kit.

They are made by Racor, but it seems that GM has proprietary rights to sell the replacement parts. I hope that changes soon.

There was a post by ZeroCool sometime in mid August on the duel filter set-up on the Savana. This is the part number he recieved from GM 19149845, believe it or not the stealer could not come up with the right number. I have found them at GM parts direct for $69.00 plus shipping.

According to ZeroCool post, there are 2 filters and O-rings included with part number 19149845. The smaller filter is the primary element, which is the fuel filter. The larger one is the secondary element, which is the fuel and water separator.

I have 4200 miles on my 06 and will be changing mine shortly. Keep me posted if you encounter any problems with your filter change.

I have logged 61,000 miles since January.

This makes my 4th fuel filter change.

Dealer does it for me.

I'd be willing to try it myself but I'd like to see it done before I attempt it myself.
