: Low Beams Quite Working???

FYI, I have the Kennedy harness. My low beams are not working. The other night I turned off the headlights by pushing the little button several times until the lights were off and my parking lights were on (I occasional need to do this like when in line at night at a fast food place). And I pushed the button for the lights to come back on and they would not. I then drove around in high beams on. So both high beams worked but both the low beams did not. The next night both low beams worked fine and then the night after that they quite working after I turned them off by pushing the bottom to turn them off. I check the grounds on your harness but they were tight and I made sure that the paint was removed on both sides but that was not the issue. Now they will not come on at all (no low beams but high works fine). Has the switch in the cab below the vent gone bad? I have checked both low beam light bulbs with new ones but that is not the problem eigther.

I'd check the original switch/harness by unplugging the Kennedy harness and plugging two low beam lights into the OEM sockets and see if they come on or not.

Just a guess, but I'd bet that your switch has a problem.

I just replaced the module in the cab and that was not it. I just checked all four bulbs and were the kennedy harness connect to factory harness and they are all fine. I will go out and do what you say plug in the factory wiring.

I just unplugged the Kennedy harness and plugged in the factory plugs and they work. So it has something to do with the Kennedy harness. Tonight I will go and switch the blue relays and see if they are the cause, and I will look for different ground locations for the harness. Can we hook these grounds off the kit directly to the batteries? Last x-mas the ground on the passenger side stopped grounding but that was when I did not scrape away the paint and both bulbs on the right side stopped working. But since then both grounds on both sides have scraped away paint areas. I wonder if the electric grease is needed, it will not hurt. Edited by: BassinRVer

I replaced both of my AC batteries with Red Tops which have both side mount and top post attachment points.

I got a couple of solid brass Top Post adapters that have a post with a wingnut on it and attached the Kennedy harness (both + & - ) straight to the batteries.

I've had no problems and it sure beats trying to find a good ground on the body of the truck.

There was one guy who kept eating relays, but we found he was hitting them with direct pressure washer...

What quite working when a relay went out? One side, hi or low beams?

how much does this harness help?

Harness takes the strain off the factory wiring systems and gets it power directly from the battery source. Thus makes for a brighter light. It also allows you to have your bright and low beams on at the same time. The harness is one of my best mods I have done to my truck. Being able to have the bright and low beams on at the same time makes for incredible visibility.http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Clap.gifhttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Clap.gifhttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Clap.gif

I don't like spraying water from the water hose due to all of the electronics, couldn't imagine using a pressure washer under the hood http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Ouch.gif

gearhead,

Had to state how much it helps....one of those you gotta see it to understand.

I'd say it helps quite a bit.

Take a close look at the OEM headlight wire size and you'll see where having larger wire running straight from the battery would increase the voltage to the headlights.

It may sound silly, but check the lights themselves. I had 2 blow at the same time and it really confused me for a while. Both lows went while they were on. I replaced them and have had no issues since. I got some of the HIR1 and HIR2 bulbs as replacements. The bulb base has to be slightly modified, but they are brighter than stock or the Superstars.

Of the common problems, here's the story:

Both lights on same ckt out, it is typically a bent pin on feed harness. Remote possibility of bad relay.

Both lights on same side out or dim, is typically a bad ground.

In other words, LH and RH lamps are grounded jointly. Low and Hi are signaled and relay actrivated jointly. I also suggest removing the 4 lamp diode plug while troubleshooting.

In this case however, it sounds like the BCM or something else is not turning them back on after being overridden unless I am misunderstanding. Too coincidental that overriding kills them. Did you try manually activating them with the rotary switch? Edited by: Kennedy

I removed both relay switches last night and guess what - RUSTY WATER IN ONE OF THE RELAYS. I switched the relays and the low beam worked. So I need another relay JK. I will need to relocate the relays into the engine compartment.
