: LLY "wait to start" light won’t....

I know that the LLY glow plug system has been updated from the LB7 but should it work this way.

When my LB7 sat over night in the garage (60-70 degrees F) my light would come to wait to start. My LLY with the same temperature conditions, the "wait to start" light some days might come on for a second or two or like this morning it didn't come on at all after sitting all night.

Is this right? Is there a certain temperature it needs to be outside where the system says it does not need to "wait to start"?

I am amazed there is so much difference between the LLY and LB7 in the glow plug system. Not saying that this is bad but, a little leery...

Have not had the problem where the light stays on like others have had...

Its normal, mine does the same thing. It will stay on longer in the winter when its colder.

IIRC, the max time you'll see the "wait to start" light is three seconds. That's when it's cold outside and the vehicle sits for quite a period of time.

Now that summer is here, even after all night, mine's rarely on for more than a second in the morning, and I don't usually even see it the rest of the day.

It's one of the improvements on the LLY...http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Clap.gif

Thanks for the replies. I knew it was an improvment but didn't know it would be that much less.

Mine works the same as all the others. However, I never stopped to think about this until now. What happens if you turn the key before the glow light goes off? Never tried it. Anybody?

Truck will start. If it's really cold out a may pop, then cycle glow plugs again, but right now in summer it would be fine.Edited by: JUSTIFIED HD

Sometimes mine comes on and somtimes it doesn't. In cold weather it may come on for a second or two. The LLY is designed diffrently than the LB7. The glow plugs reach 1000 degrees in a fraction of a second. than they reduce their temp for the remaining 2 seconds if it they are needed. Also the injector has part of the spray pattern that sprays directly on the glow plug. YOU ARE DEFINATLY GOING TO HAVE FIRE! They also draw some 80 amps for the first second than reduce the power draw.

I tried it once when I first got mine. I had never owned a diesel before, hopped in, turned the key and it fired right up. Brain-farted I guess. It was about 25 degrees outside and it fired up without a hitch after sitting over the weekend. I panicked for a split second, but after it lit up, I never worried again. (Of course, I waited for the light after that, too).
