: Using slicks at the track
bfastcars 09-28-2006, 08:49 PM Has any one tried a set of M&T slicks or E/T street slicks on their Dmax?
What were your 60'S RWD with slicks vrs street tires on FWD.
The FWD is ok but I would rather race in RWD only due to damage to my
truck.
If any one can shed alittle experience with me I would be very greatfull.

MadMaxRacing 09-28-2006, 09:18 PM I've run the cheaters slicks for a while now and they WILL increase your 60ft time .My best 60ft is 1.52,but 1.60 are often.
bfastcars 09-29-2006, 11:36 PM Thanks for your come back MadMax.I will be buying a set of E/T streets
based on your 60 ft. times.

04MAXLLY 10-05-2006, 03:24 PM 1.5 60's really feel good. I have a set of 15" 8 lug wheels and a set of worn 325/50/15" ET Street Radials and I wonder how my 02 DMax would 60' leaving under boost v/s leaving easy. My truck is mostly stock with a gutted airbox with K&N, Bullydog 155HP tune and Banks wastegate. Later Clint
ratlover 10-05-2006, 03:33 PM your 60'ing at a 1.5 and 1.6 in 2wd with just slick in the back? I'm betting you mean you are still leaving with all 4 turning ;)
ZR1160 10-05-2006, 04:25 PM Can you fit 15" rims on a Dmax?
Joey D 10-05-2006, 05:07 PM I can't do any better than 2.2 with the Express, wheel spin is just to much. I leave the line with no powerbraking and rolling into the pedal or 3+ seconds 60' will happen.
Will a slick help at all with my van?

Can't hurt. If you end up doing it, take some pictures. I'd love to see slicks on a diesel van.
BMDMAX 10-05-2006, 08:51 PM With just slicks and Cal-Tracs the best I can muster is 1.77 on the sixty foot. Usual is 1.8x range. That is with a converter built to allow me to spool 20 plus PSI on the line with only 2WD braking power.
Without extensive suspension mods and some way to spool it harder at the line I don't see much better happening in a full weight 2WD truck. Something weighing in at the 5000 pound range should be able to do 1.5's pretty easy I would think with the right suspension tweaks.
chaseum 10-06-2006, 10:10 AM what size slicks are guys running in 4wd?
BMDMAX 10-06-2006, 10:28 AM what size slicks are guys running in 4wd?
The 30 inch cheater slicks.
chaseum 10-06-2006, 06:33 PM what size wheels?
tlee05 10-06-2006, 06:45 PM How do the time compare slicks with 2wd vrs non slick with 4wd. I would think that your trap speeds would increase because your only pushing power through two wheels instead of four. JMO
ZR1160 10-06-2006, 06:48 PM :exactly: what size wheels?
BMDMAX 10-06-2006, 07:22 PM Same thing I run on the back, they are running on all four corners.
M&H Racemaster 30x14.0-16 Cheater Slicks model MHD-11 on 16x10 rims.
chaseum 10-06-2006, 07:25 PM The nearest track for me is at least 50miles. I do not want to risk running my truck in 4wd because it would increase my chance of breakage. Also, I may be towing other vehicles to the track.
If I were to race in 2wd. I would like to know the best tire setup. Heck I wouldn't mind someone recommending me a good 4wd setup for the street as well. I currently have 315something (the equivelant of 35-12.50's) I also have access to h-2 tires and/or wheels because I work at a chevy dealership (same size, just 17"rim instead).
I am just gathering ideas, nothing concrete. How much difference in time should I see at the track?

Trap speeds don't win races.
There has not been a 2WD Duramax that can hold a candle to the short track times on the 4WD trucks yet. I say yet because there is not a purpose built 2WD running but there will be.
The heavy hitter 4WD trucks are trapping at 130 MPH so it is a non-issue to turn the extra components. That being said, a 2WD will generally trap with better MPH and there are less things to grenade.
ratlover 10-06-2006, 07:27 PM The 4x4 street tired guys walk all over the 2wd slick tired guys in the 60' And I mean true street tires not calling a DOT slick a street tire. 1.6 is doeable pretty easy if you have power in a 4x4 with some 265 or the like AT tires
ratlover 10-06-2006, 07:28 PM Type quicker than my Brandon :)
He said it much better than I did.....

You are not going to find anything that tall to run in a slick. The M&H Nostalgia tire on a 16x10 at 32 inches tall would be your best bet.
chaseum 10-06-2006, 07:50 PM Brandon, are you ever coming to the scriven track? There is also a track being built soon in brunswick. Next time I am doing a vehicle trade in macon I might visit up there? (I did not want a slick that tall, just using what I have right now as a reference. When the time comes for new tires, I just wanted to know what to look for)
BMDMAX 10-06-2006, 07:57 PM Where is the Scriven track at? I am not familiar with that one. Silver Dollar is where I run the most frequently at. I have a turbo Buick event coming up there at the beginning of November.
